Wonderful! Thank you very much! This is a keeper for me! I'm going to print it and give it to someone at work on Monday.

Maybe join us in the PA forum if you haven't already. I'm seriously considering voting for Hoeffel just to get rid of Arlen.

Good job joanie. I think if Colorado, Oklahoma and Illinois had not gone up for grabs at the last minute, things would have been different, but those retirements really hurt.

Well said.

I am not sure what you mean by "political fog". It is actaully quite simple. The RNC will back an incumbent big govt, pro abortion socialist so long as he plays the capitol hill political charade well enough to suit them.

Party always trumps principle.

(1) individual liberty is not compromisable

Its all about individual liberty.

Nothing else really matters.

Regards

J.R.

Can you or anyone else please tell me why Santorum sold-out to the Pro-life cause? I'm still baffled by it all....

Anyway....What happened in Pennsylvania is a microcosm, people all across the fruited plains have been walking in a fog to allow innocent children butchered by the millions. And if we take a real close look at this fog we will see it's not fog at all, but Evil. May as well call it by it's real name.

"1) individual liberty is not compromisable

(2) along with liberty, the sanctity of life is not compromisable

And, in order to protect and ensure the above:

(3) American law and justice cannot be over-ridden by international law or treaties

(4) American sovereignty must be preserved from outside interference of any kind

(5) the expressly limited to a few enumerated powers authority of government must remain in the hands of the people"

==

Good list.

But, as you said, the primary is over.

Now it's time to focus on the November elections and ask yourself, whether a Democrat or Republican Senate fits in with your criteria.

If conservatives stay home "to teach Specter a lesson", we may well have a Democrat Senate with President Kerry.

Joanie, as usual, very well said, articulated and conveyed.

I would call your thick fog...strong dilusions.

Other than that, and the following quote...I have nothing to add.

"[N]either the wisest constitution nor the wisest laws will secure the liberty and happiness of a people whose manners are universally corrupt. He therefore is the truest friend of the liberty of his country who tries most to promote its virtue, and who, so far as his power and influence extend, will not suffer a man to be chosen onto any office of power and trust who is not a wise and virtuous man." Samuel Adams

Thank you for extending your power and influence in just the manner Sam Adams indicated. God would that more and more citizens would do so.

Well said, Joanie.

Politics is the art of compromise.
Principles can never be compromised.
You either stand for something, or for nothing.

Specter has no principles, he is worthless.

As regards President Bush's and Senator Santorum's recent endorsement of Arlen Specter, I believe thick political fog took precedence over the Founders' vision. They will have to answer for that, to their constituents and their consciences.

You can say that again.

Excellent post, Joanie...

The Neville Chamberlain-wing of the RINO party won't like it, but you hit the nail pretty good.

Thanks for this excellent analysis and your support for Pat. I don't know how I've ever missed you in all this time (at least I don't remember us ever bumping into each other before). I know that Jeff Head thinks highly of you and that alone is recommendation enough for me.

If you have a ping list, please add me to it. I do like the way that you think.

I'm not really a wild, crazy radical although I do sometimes play one on FR. And in real life too, I suppose. I have been working to get Pat elected (perhaps) before Pat even knew that he was running - 3 years now. My animosity towards Specter is because of his politics. I know plenty of jerks and he is one, but this isn't personal. I truly belief that the radical socialist that Joe Hoeffel is cannot do the damage that Arlen can do.

Great post to use as more ammunition for my sons' home schooling. Saving to CIVICS folder :)
I am a real conservative, and our President should be literally ashamed of himself for backing Specter..because I am ashamed of him!!!

I have a question for you.

Pennsylvania has been sending Arlen Specter to the U.S. Senate for over two decades.

Conservatives mount a grass roots campaign this year, with an underfunded, somewhat nebbish candidate challenging a well-known incumbent and the Party machine.

He almost wins, but since he did not, people want to abandon the GOP, and allow a Democrat to win the seat.

If you were the GOP, what would you do about this active minority of voters in a State that has gone for the Democratic presidential candidate in every election since 1988 and now threatens to hurt the coming elections because they didn't win?

I would replace them.

A well deserved bump for a well written article. Thank you, joanie-f.

The Specter/Toomey race has given most of us a great deal to reflect upon.

Protesting Specter's liberalism by voting for Hoeffel is like protesting Saddam's tyranny by voting for Hitler.
