Two flat is about what you'd see on a fast track. Two min. flat is the 3rd fastest Derby ever run. The average fast-track Derby win is more like 2:02.

Saw him race at Belmont. He was as magnificent as they say.
To: Mr. Mojo
Who holds the record for fastest Derby run? Secretariat still?

Me too. ....That's the year ('73) I started watching horse racing. No horse dominated the Triple Crown like Secretariat did. .....no horse ever even came close, in fact. His performance in the Belmont was up there with the most awe-inspiring performances in the history of sport.

So the "penalty" for a sloppy track is only 2 to 4 seconds. That's amazing to me. I wonder what a 4-minute human miler would run in the muck?
To: 3catsanadog

I think Imperialism's jockey waited too long to make his move. His gain over the last 1/4 mile was impressive.Need to see where Pollard's Vision ended up. He was running pretty well at the mid-point.
To: 3catsanadog
Just looked up his pedigree - His father was "Bold Ruler".
