Yes we could. I am for it!!!

LOL You're making this hard for me! I started with 2 picks, went to 3, now you reminded me of Imperialism's story, and so have 4.
My dad told me about it and i think he said he's his choice too. Wasn't he the one with the injured eye? I keep trying to call my dad but the line is busy.
LionHeart (I love the name, and I think he could win.)
Tapit
Imperialism
Smarty Jones
Now to narrow it down...

Pollards Vision is blind in one eye. He is also one of my choices (and he's a mudder).

I pick a few horses I want to win and then end up wishing they'd all win.

Going out to watch this with my husband on the family room TV. I always think of my late dad during the Derby....he was very good at picking winners.
To: Bluntpoint
Throw up and throw up some more...you will reach the weight!!!I tried that. But you can't drink Coors, puke, and expect to loose weight...;^)
After I reached 21 years old and weighed 140 being a jockey was not what the Almighty thought I should do. Nether did the Army.

"pretty unusual for a horse to be ridden at liberty in that kind of setting!"
Exactly. I can see doing it for practice, or letting the reins lay, but to not even have anything for backup is pretty impressive with all that's going on around them.

Later, after the Derby, look for a live thread on the White House Correspondents Dinner FReeping by the DC Chapter....

Rider's up!
To: Trust but Verify
It is called riding 'at liberty'... if you did a google of it you may find websites that talk about it. It is a specialty you don't see a lot, outside Hollywood and trick riding.

My dad and a lot of western riders scoff at dressage, thinkin it's "sissy", lol. But I've never ridden, or even known, a western or race horse that was as disciplined as all the dressage horses I've seen.

My instinct would be that the liberty horse is a pony that has made that trip down to the gate with a thousand horses and knows the drill pretty well. They prolly realized the horse could do it without help a while ago!
