I posted a warning in the canteen yesterday about one of the Scum at Indymedia.org telling people to write soldiers in Iraq and tell them to stop killing Iraqi's in this "unjust war". His suggestion was to be nice to them in the first letter then hit them with noth barrels in the next letter. Wonder if this could be part of that? What made me think of it was his talking about sending stuff to the troops.

As far as being taken in by this guy, what harm is there to err on the side of compassion? None. There is no shame in caring for other human beings. People who pull scams need our prayers even more.
That thread was an expression of kindness and caring by beautiful souls on this forum. The person who lied should be ashamed. God will put our prayers to use as He sees fit. They will not be wasted. These episodes will not change my future behavior one bit.

Just wanted to give you a public apology after our fr mail exchange. I think we are on the same side, and my original post, although in reply to a post by you, was not directed "at" you in a harmful way, and I should have either left it to no one in particular or not done it at all.
Have a good day.

Good catch. For the second half of that name:
WitawaTwo Polish city names together. For a guy who spoke perfect English and called everyone lad.
Then there was this by sinkspur:
To: lysie "Magda" must be a common first and last Polish name. Did you know that bogdan's Brother-in-Law is named Jaroslaw Rypinski?
In Polish, Jaroslaw= capital, and Rypinski= county.
IOW, he's named after a capital and a county in Poland.
I find that bit strange, too.
To: FourPeas
Thanks for pulling this all together. The daughter with the 102F fever raised a flag for me. It's sad people act this way. That's when I started to doubt, also. I couldn't imagine someone that frightened to take the time to start a thread on FR. Seemed strange to me.

And I owe you one in the public eye, as well.
Anger can be mis-directed, in your case.
But it can also be the mightiest of weapons, if used properly.
I go now to find that way.

THAT THREAD'S still UP????Yup. The original poster's account has been banned or suspended. Lead mod put the ZOT on him/her/it on post #213.

And they shouldn't. But when it is brought up in an anonymous, public forum that there is a suspicion of fraud, maybe it should be considered. Not directing this at you; am thinking more of the heat that FJ Mitchell took last night. FJ saw thru it and people should give him a debt of respect about now, IMO.

I Am Not A Mod : Thanks for your research.
OLD Sarge : Thanks for the PING
I have "mixed emotions" on this situation.
1st I am sorry for alerting FReepers to this scam.
2nd I am relieved to know that this "tragedy" did not take place.
3rd IF I start doubting every prayer request that comes along then I've lost.
4th The person who started this hoax needs help.
5th The person who started this should be ashamed for causing so much grief.
6th Prayer threads on FR do work. Just ask Texas Termite!

Adopt a Soldier - Stop the War
author: jimmy
Write a letter to a soldier to let him/her know what people really think of this war. Send a photo of a dead Iraqi civilian. Send a photo or message about an anti-war protest.
I found this organization Soldiers Angels maybe there are others. Outreach to soldiers is the best way to persuade them to stop killing civilians. Maybe they will even begin fragging (killing their officers) like in Vietnam. It's worth a try. At least send your newly adopted soldier some real news instead of the Stars and Stripes propaganda they hear 24/7.
Here's a suggestion: Make nice the first time you contact your soldier. Then send anti-war information or whatever. Once you have the address/name and build a relationship your mail will get through. The first time it may not if it's clearly anti-war that's why it might work best to make nice at first.

People who do this, only deserve contempt, and vengeance.
They already have one.
I will find a way, for the other.

I'm a real person here, as are others
Considering that I'm supposed to be a writer, I didn't state that very well. LOL (You ever read what Anne Lamott calls "first drafts" in her book Bird by Bird? Unfortunately, most posts here qualify as how she describes first drafts. Or, at least mine do.)
What I meant was that despite the risks today in revealing one's true identity online, I still do so. yada yada yada ;)
As for anyone I meet here, I'm going to continue to assume I'm talking to a "real" and sincere person; barring that, it's probably better to be chatting with a bot than with a troll.

Our prayers are never wasted.
I am sure God knows who bogdan and his family are. If there really is a need, HE will meet it. If not, HE will deal with it!

He posted some great photos, but none of Magda or family or even his dog on his website.
For all the bitching and moaning about bannings and thread pullings and Lord knows what else, this shows that JR goes the extra mile with folks. It also shows what genuinely nice folks freepers generally are, how willing to pitch in, pray for, hurt for others. And I don't see that changing because of cheap tricks.
Thanks to all those who keep this wonderful place running. Extra rations for the hamsters tonight!
