Mississippi ranked 50th for the sixth year in a row. Other states in the bottom five were Tennessee, Louisiana and South Carolina.

For the 14th year running, Alabama has ranked near the bottom in a national survey of "livability" that measures each state's quality of life based on factors such as hazardous waste sites and the rates of crime, bankruptcy and unemployment.

Kansas-based Morgan Quitno Press ranked Alabama as the 47th most livable state.

The group found New Hampshire the "most livable state." Others in the top ten were Minnesota, Vermont, Iowa, New Jersey, Wyoming, Virginia, Nebraska, Connecticut and South Dakota.

and it is a big one, you can't afford to retire there.

I was born in Washington, raised and worked in CA with a little TX thrown in for good measure. I am retired to AL and am happy it does not rate higher. If the rating keeps the liberal rift raft out then it is serving its purpose. BTW had a friend move to New Hampshire, his wife had him sell and move after one winter.

Try going outside wearing a bathing suit and go swimming in any of those states in January.

Even worse without the bathing suit.

The property tax burden in New Hampshire is crushing. This must be why the statists find it most livable.

No they find it "most livable" because it has the least number of blacks. This whole list correlates 1 to 1 from the state at the top of the list with the least percentage of blacks to the state at the bottom of the list with the most percentage of blacks. It is racist through and through. See the map in my number 86.

We came so close to retiring in Alabama, but our son is in Atlanta so we decided to move way north of Atlanta. We like it here. That report is so bogus.

We were split between Texas and Atlanta, but our son helped us make the decision by accepting admission at Auburn. (His roommate is from the Atlanta area, Snellville)

With enough environmental regulations, it would have to have that many just to enforce them all. The greenies are doing what they can to bring about this reality, although they are strangely silent on the propects for the economy when 100% of the population would be government service, and 0% employed in productive, wealth-creating jobs.

Exactly. The Greenies hate business because it is business that makes America strong and they hate America.

I was born in Alabama and have lived in 10 different states. New Jersey was one of my favorites. It is really beautiful there. I lived in one of the westernmost counties, and when I drove the back roads, I wanted to stop at every curve in the road to take a picture. Country beauty, and yet only an hour to New York City. We had great health care and little or no crime. The only negative, and it is a big one, you can't afford to retire there.

Would that have been Hunterdon? I grew up there 5 minutes away from Round Valley reservoir, probably my favorite place on earth. Though that place is changing fast for the worse with hordes of immigrants pouring in. Much of the forests and farmlands are gone replaced with housing developments.

Yes, I was between Clinton and Flemington. Talk about living in a post card, it was beautiful. I really miss it. In the past few years the real estate has gotten so high that it would be almost impossible for us to go back.
