DEMS TO RALLY BEHIND 'DAY AFTER'; GORE PLANS SPEECH AT 'GLOBAL WARMING' PREMIERE

FOX’s global warming thriller THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW is turning into a political lightening rod.

A rally featuring former VP and environmental advocate Al Gore will be held a couple of blocks away from the pic’s May 24 preem in Gotham and hosted by MoveOn.org, DAILY VARIETY is reporting on Wednesday.

Helmed by director Roland Emmerich, DAY follows the onset of a new Ice Age just three days after the polar ice caps melt. With Emmerich’s penchant for onscreen destruction, the pic includes catastrophic tornadoes touching down in Los Angeles, giant hail in Tokyo and the flooding and freezing of New York.

VARIETY reporter Gabriel Snyder is planning to quote Gore: “THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW presents us with a great opportunity to talk about the scientific realities of climate change. Millions of people will be coming out of theaters on Memorial Day weekend asking the question, ‘Could this really happen?’ I think we need to answer that question.”

FOX spokeswoman Florence Grace said the pic “is meant to entertain audiences with a mix of spectacle and emotion. If it also increases awareness and inspires audiences to take an interest in some of the issues raised in the film, then all the better.”

You think it looks funny? I thought the effects looked fairly good. However the fact that Algore is promoting it will keep me from spending my money.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread. Consider it a bump.

Kind of fitting that they have to rally around a work of fiction. Basing public policy on science fiction is probably the wrong way to go.

Interesting though that if the Rats are so worked up about this global warming thing, one policy they could promote that isn't based in fiction is the increased use of alternate fuels to displace the combustion of carbon-based fuels. And one relatively quick way to do that is in the central power station-based generation of baseload electricity. That means, in a practical sense, increased use of nuclear energy. Ironic that the Rats oppose that almost to a person. Shows they aren't serious about solving a (possible) problem so much as political grandstanding.

Like I said, I won't support it, but the effects do look good. And sure, effects can help make a movie. Don't be so stubborn. I don't like the tree huggers and Sierra Club morons, but this movie's trailers look pretty good. Algore is the court jester for the Left.

Remind me...wasn't Al Gore the idiot who blamed George W. Bush for the anthropogenic global warming that resulted in the awful excessive heat wave on the coldest day in two dozen years in urbanizing New York? I could be wrong, but I seem to remember thinking, "If this is 'global warming,' I'd hate to see life without this warming, courtesy of Al Gore, who probably would prohibit heating systems if he were elected."

Rush is making a great point on his show today....the dems are SO desperate and bereft of issues, that they have resorted to books and movies for their campaign material.

They will make such fools of themselves over this. People go to these KNOWING it's as realistic as an alien invasion. All they will accomplish is to show us what a bunch of sissy chicken littles they all are.

Perhaps we could use Armageddon to convince them to buy into the missle defence system seeing as reality doesn't sway them.
