April 28, 2004 -- WASHINGTON - A former manager in the scandal-scarred oil for food program will tell Congress today how top U.N. officials running the program deliberately looked the other way, congressional officials said last night.
Frenchman Michael Soussan, a former program coordinator for the $100 billion fund, is expected to be the star witness of a House International Relations Committee hearing looking into Saddam's gigantic $10.1 billion rip-off.

(Close the borders, problems solved!)
Finally, questions from the members.
I should say, questions from the Republicans - and speeches from the dems.

Was that Pletka or Pousson speaking in #74?

That was Pletka, sorry. She was the one later accused of playing politics by saying basically "What did Khofi know and when did he know it?"...but she was absolutely right.

"10 billion in graft and smuggling, I believe that is a very conservative figure"...Is this literally, then, the biggest white collar crime in all of human history, as some have claimed? How much in $$$ did BCCI add up to?

Marc Rich's company was on the Oil for Food program before he was pardoned by Bill Clinton. Thomas Frutig, CEO of Marc Rich Holdings, says he didn't know anything about it.

"Is this literally, then, the biggest white collar crime in all of human history, as some have claimed?"It's even worse. I've been hollaring about the blood money for oil program for years. Where does the Security Council think Saddam was getting all that money he was awarding to the families of successful homocide bombs??

I'd also like to know if any UN weapons inspectors were corrupted (giving them the benefit of the doubt) and if so, who they were. The implications of this whole thing are just staggering.

Ackerman is screaming at Dan Burton and taking up for the UN. He is now talking about Halliburton and President Bush being compared to the Oil for Food Program scandal.

Missed that part. Stopped real player because the video was getting hairy, and tried to get it back again by pressing the "play" button. Guess you can't do it like that, any more than you can copy and paste the link in real player.

Greene saying we're already talking politics, instead of keeping our eye on the ball. I wanted to ask the last senator - couldn't catch his name - whether BILL CLINTON should be held to the same standard. He sounded like he was trying to pin ALL the corruption on the Bush administration, ignoring the fact that blood money for oil started during the Clinton administration.
