Prayer won't save them now. It might have helped before they decided to pursue the path of evil, but not now.

I just read Peters; thanks so much for the link. I would not change a single word, period, or comma of his column.

If we kill 64 insurgents in one day in Najaf, we're doing serious damage to their force structure, if you can call it that. Their are only about 1,200 true militia in Najaf, perhaps 1,600 in Fallujah. We don't want to foment a general uprising in a city of 300,000 but Fallujah is not a holy shrine like Najaf, and we will be patrolling it by week's end--with Iraqi police forces. And we will knock the stuffing out of any areas of resistance.
This is a small replay of Baghdad. We don't want street fighting with numerous civialians being hurt, but the enemy is both cowardly, and often quite amateur in their tactics.
Like everyone else here, I don't want to lose a single Marine's life over this, but putting them in harms way is the only method of separating the sheep from the goats, so to speak. I'm told that our forces will be more than sufficient to handle the situation and it sounds like they are getting plenty of close air support. One military analyst said that we had to take Fallujah down hard as a lesson to the insurgents. I think that's what we're going to do, regardless of our "pledge" not to carry out a general invasion of the city.

Well, I'm guessing this time the fists of justice were made out of lead too - unless they were made out of DU.
To: mrustow
It's a brilliant day in America for democracy and freedom when DU is in tears.
I love it :).
Terrorists scumbags being destroyed, one after another after another. Today is a good day for humanity

I think that the USA has been playing dumb, weak, gullible, and silly, and risking UDSA soldiers lives while doing so.
I am sick of it. USA thinks that they can deal with the devil and win, and it just is not true. We can never expect the devil to keep his word about anything.
It is really not much wonder that the terrorist do not believe us.

CNN is now broadcasting that a surface-to-air missile could bring down a gunship "if they have one". CNN is the network of choice for the "insurgents"!

We shouldn't be patrolling it by week's end, and certainly not with Iraqi "police forces." If we're smart, by the end of the week, there will be no Falluja to patrol.
Falluja is not a miniature version of Baghdad.

my wife made a good point; "Everyone thought we would have urban warfare one year ago. They ran before, now they are fighting. this is the urban war we expected, only later."
5,000 marines will make 50,000 arabs very unhappy tomorrow.
Here is what one air drop warned. "Surrender, you are surrounded," the leaflets said. "If you are a terrorist, beware, because your last day was yesterday. In order to spare your life end your actions and surrender to coalition forces now. We are coming to arrest you."

a little disinformation can go a long way, which is fine with me.. the enemy needs to be defeated... even if we look stupid trying to 'negotiate' with alsadr, maybe we're spending that time figuring out where the leadership is, something that might be difficult to do if they are in hiding during battle... i remember when rumsfeld was criticized for allowing the terrorists in afghanistan to come together as a large group, but the army was able to defeat them en masse rather than killing them one by one
