...has it occurred to anyone that Syria is a Ba'athist state and a long time ally of Saddam? No, because Prior to the overthrow of Saddam, they were not allies, but enemies, (Syrian Ba'athists not = Iraqi Ba'athists) vying for control of the PanArab state they were trying to bring about.
WIth Saddam out of the picture the Ba'athists in Syria have a chance to make a power play.

The Belmont Club, with I think the resources of one guy, is so far outpacing the major media in this country--who have guys stationed in the countries where the action is going down--that it is just about the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen.

If we are really serious about the WoT we're going to have to deal with Syria sooner or later...preferably sooner.
Sky news reports UN building in Damascus seen up in flames.

Yep, Syria and Iraq absolutely DESPISED each other for decades.
There's no greater hatred than there is between two different branches of the same ideology; Stalin hated Trotskyite Communists more than he hated capitalists, for example.
Syria sent troops to fight Iraq for Gulf War I. Several times Syria and Iraq mobilized on their borders against each other and almost started fighting over the last 40 years or so.

Double holy crap! It's started in Fallujah. And not a minute too soon. Things are heating up over there

The other thing of note is Syria supported IRAN in the Iran-Iraq War.

Al-jazeeria is on the ground there, feeding in video from the town. It's nothing interesting.
I'll get back shortly. I've got a phone call.

Eh, I have no idea what he means. OF COURSE its under the radar because there's no film of it.
In this situation the amount of attention each story gets will be directly proportional to the amount of cool-looking footage there is.
The Damascus story has none.

"i'd just keep my eyes open on Syria in the next week or so."
Now that Fallujah has started we need to keep our eyes peeled on the domestic side. Now is when I would look for them to retaliate here to divert attention and get revenge / make their point.

They probably had a little Hitler/Stalin/Poland thing going on......

Sky news reports UN building in Damascus seen up in flames. That would be Iran/AQ. They hate to see any UN legitimacy at any level given to the Iraqi coalition. Bombed 'em once in Baghdad - now Syria.
IMO.

How soon we forget. Not too long ago Iran was reportedly detaining some senior Al Qaeda operatives.

Righto. It's the video that dictates much for TV news.

UNfortunately, nowadays, the print media is so d** slow when it comes to breaking news, and the tv media only show what they can get a videographer to show. Images drive ratings....
