[history]
April 27, 2004 -- THE conventional wisdom is that the presidential election will be close. It's a 50-50 country, so the CW goes, just as it was in the year 2000.
Kerry is a terrible, terrible, terrible candidate.
It's not so much the policies he proposes, although they don't add up to all that much. The problem is Kerry himself. He no sooner opens his mouth than he sticks first one foot and then the other right in there.

So, who will be the Democrat Nominee?
And you're asking people that come to Freerepublic? (*lol*)
I'd take a long bet it's Kerry - because the Clintons won't allow anyone else. This year's candidate has to lose, and make Hillary look good in comparison. The only question is whether the Clintons think there's a chance to beat Bush. If they do, then Hillary is the VP. If not, maybe she will be anyway.
And there's no way I'd be the heartbeat that keeps Hillary away from the Presidency. Anyone remember William Henry Harrison?

I am confused. I thought Kerry had said he threw someone else's medals away and for some reason kept his I believe that was the 1984 version (when union leaders told him they were having trouble keeping their guys in line over the medal throwing in the 70s). Or was it the 1996 version? The 2003 version? Well, I'm confused, too.

I am confused. I thought Kerry had said he threw someone else's medals away and for some reason kept his Being Kerry has told 5 dozen different versions fo the story being confused is to be expected.
But their is one question regarding this matter that Kerry should be asked point blank, live on TV...
Mr. Kerry, regarding the medal throwing incident, in the past you said that you threw someone elses medals and that is not in dispute. But you also said that you didn't throw yours because you wanted to keep them and thus threw your ribbons. But since then you have said that you would have thrown yours but you didn't have time to go home and get them. So which, if either is the truth?

I would fear more from Lieberman than Edwards. Edwards is easily and rightly portrayed as a lawyer who made his fortune from "litigation lottery" and would be in the back pocket of the trial lawyers. However, Lieberman is not the prettiest plate on the shelf. That kind of stuff matters.

As soon as I heard her voice (on the radio that night) I was absolutely certain she was going on the ticket, either top or bottom. Does anyone else recall hearing the rumor/gossip a bit back that Clinton wanted Hillary on the ticket with Kerry, and if Kerry wouldn't comply, Clinton would bring his book out in time to overshadow the convention?

I am confused. I thought Kerry had said he threw someone else's medals away and for some reason kept his. Latest version: In his clenched fist were some of HIS ribbons and some medals belonging to OTHERS which were in the breast pocket of the BDU shirt with his ribbons on it that he had slipped on at his apartment that day.
He was standing before the nation--the entire NATION mind you--trying to WAKE AMERICA UP. It's hard to remember exactly what was in his breast pocket that day...

It's very hard to come back from a negative perception of character. Clinton could do it because things were going pretty well, and he's a great politician Clinton never came back from it. He never had too. From day one in the primaries the voters saw him as a low life, lying, typical politican of the lowest order. The 1992 primary was originally billed as "The race to lose to George Bush." He was seen as invincible and then it all fell apart.
People never had a high opinion of Clinton the man.

So, who will be the Democrat Nominee?
I am beginning to doubt that it will be Kerry. Has *either* party ever tossed out the "presumptive candidate" after the primaries?

"As solid as Lieberman seems to be (I think he's ok in a "cream of the crap" sense) he is unelectable and the dems know this."
Lieberman sold his soul and integrity when he ran with Gore. Everything he stood for went down the drain.
He's cut from the same cloth of the 'I'll say anything for a vote' bunch.

Hillary! keeps saying 'absolutely not'. If Kerry starts going down in flames by the convention, the Dems will not run an obvious loser.
