SCAM Alert

Posted on 04/26/2004 9:09:05 PM PDT by SandRat

Attention all Freepers!!!

I got this in the mail today in a manila legal window envelope with only a return address of

Service Center
PO Box 10708
Goldsboro, NC 27532

for a return address.

Very official looking isn't it?

Well it's not!

It's not until you get to the very small small text at the bottom of the card that it reads:

Not affiliated with or endorsed by any Government or Medicare program.

I'm dropping it off with the local paper tomorrow so they can alert everyone here but wanted warn you all too.

Warn your friends and relatives that are at or nearing retirement age of this.

It's not until you get to the very small small text at the bottom of the card that it reads:

I'd be more concerned if there was no disclaimer. Then it truly would be criminal, or gulp, the gubmint.

Ever since the Do Not Call list came into effect, companies resort to all kinds of subterfuges to get you to send in something, which would constitute that you are allowing them to call you.

They want to sell people life insurance -- I see some of these ads on TV.

But you have to be more and more careful.

The Mother of a friend of mine got a note from the credit card, it actually was from the credit card, they wanted her to sign to get her new card, and actually what she was signing was for the credit card company to switch her card to a type with $89 yearly fee. I said you don't need to sign anything, they just send you a new card around the time the old one expires, but the way they had it was really convincing.

Can't trust anyone -- you must read both sides, and ESPECIALLY the fine print.

When I opened it I didn't have my specs on and noticed something at the bottom. It wasn't until I put them on that I could read it and my eyes are only 20/40. Imagine how hard that would be for someone with worse eyesight to read especially from those in their mid sixties or older.

If it sounds to good to be true...it is.

You might want to get in touch with your Attorney General.

Agree, but I was also thinking that these direct mail spams could also be used for identity theft. But then again, a crook would probably have a disclaimer too. Arrrgh. Easier to be honest and trust no one. Good luck...

I think he missed his calling as a TV anchor. He's got that "anchor hair", you know?

At least you have time to read the disclaimer, albeit with a magnifying lens. What I hate are the radio diclaimers read at 300 words per second (do they train announcers just to be able to do that?)or TV ads where the disclaimer pops up for a nanosecond or so!
