"I will never cower before any master nor bend to any threat"
Two Chinese diplomats, away from their Los Angeles consulate improperly, recently sped their vehicle past a Los Alamos National Laboratory guard post near classified facilities in what U.S. officials think was an intelligence mission, The Washington Times has learned.

Sorry if this is a repeat too. While we're at it, add Syria to your "it's time to go" list.
US closing Syrian embassy
From correspondents in Washington
April 28, 2004
THE United States said it will close its embassy in Syria for a day and advised non-essential personnel at its diplomatic mission in Damascus to remain at home after violent clashes in the Syrian capital.
The US embassy in Damascus said it had no information about the assailants or their intended targets but said that private US citizens in the Syrian capital should also remain inside until the situation became clear, according to the US State Department.
The embassy is advising non-emergency staff and family members to remain in their homes until the situation is clear and encourages private American citizens to follow the same guidelines, it said in a notice to US citizens.
The notice also said the embassy as well as the Damascus Community School would be closed as a precaution.
The Syrian Interior Ministry said two of four assailants as well as a policeman and a female civilian had been killed in the gunbattle that followed the attack on the former UN building with rocket propelled grenades.
Though the incident occurred far from the US embassy compound, the Canadian and Iranian embassies are located nearby and Ottawa said its mission had sustained minor damage in the exchange of gunfire between the attackers and police.
The Syrian state news agency SANA blamed the attack on a terrorist and sabotage group but did not elaborate.

The state lists all of the reststops, and indicates which facilities are available. Of all the stops on I 5- only one rest area is "CLOSED". It's this one:
005 Elkhorn At Sacramento International Airport
I will be in that area tomorrow. I will go by and check it out.

Marines prepare for joint patrols with ICDC, Fight off night attack
Marines and members of the Iraqi Civil Defense Corps began rehearsal for joint patrols, which will soon begin in Fallujah.
ICDC, Iraqi Police Service and Marines will team up to patrol the streets of Fallujah. This is a deliberate step toward returning control of the city to Iraqi authorities.
The patrol rehearsals began yesterday outside of Fallujah, with ICDC personnel and Marines practicing the integration of their forces, communications procedures and reactions to ambushes. Marines are committed to assisting authorities in Fallujah establish an effective presence.
In Gharma today, Marines and Navy Seabees surveyed the ground for a project to convert an old military compound into a medical clinic. Marines and Seabees also met with local sheiks to gain their input for the plan.
Marine Defenses Attacked During the Night
Anti-Iraq forces attacked Marines in defensive positions in Fallujah shortly after 10 p.m. tonight, again violating the current cease-fire. Marines responded by directing precision weaponry against the enemy forces in order to defend themselves.

WHAT is going on in Fallujah with the WMD compound? I read at NEIN that the Jihadis were planning to release nerve gas and other chemical weapons then blame it on the US. But I have not seen any mention of that on this thread. Any word, Sean?

NUKE PREP:
This is a 20-50 mi high altitude detonation...the kind that would be used on us in an EMP attack. It will blind you several hundred miles away. This is 800 mi away in the pic from a Hawaiian beach..
Additional important effects that result from high-altitude bursts are the widespread ionization and other disturbances of the portion of the upper atmosphere known as the ionosphere. These disturbances affect the propagation of radio and radar waves, sometimes over extended areas . Following the TEAK event, propagation of high-frequency (HF) radio communications was degraded over a region of several thousand miles in diameter for a period lasting from shortly after midnight until sunrise. Some very-high-frequency (VHF) communications circuits in the Pacific area were unable to function for about 30 seconds after the STARFISH PRIME event.
Detonations above about 19 miles can produce EMP effects on the ground over large areas, increasing with the yield of the explosion and the height of burst. For fairly large yields and burst heights, the EMP fields may be significant at nearly all points within the line of sight,i.e., to the horizon, from the burst point. Although these fields are weaker than those in the close-in region surrounding a surface burst, they are of sufficient magnitude to damage some unprotected electrical and electronic equipment. The mechanism of formation and the effects of the EMP are treated in Chapter XI.
2.62 An interesting visible effect of high-altitude nuclear explosions is the creation of an ''artificial aurora." Within a second or two after burst time of the TEAK shot a brilliant aurora appeared from the bottom of the fireball and purple streamers were seen to spread toward the north. Less than a second later, an aurora was observed at Apia, in the Samoan Islands, more than 2,000 miles from the point of burst, although at no time was the fireball in direct view. The formation of the aurora is attributed to the motion along the lines of the earth's magnetic field of beta particles (electrons), emitted by the radioactive fission fragments.
Because of the natural cloud cover over Johnston Island at the time of burst, direct observation of the ORANGE fireball was not possible from the ground. However, such observations were made from aircraft flying above the low clouds. The auroras were less marked than from the TEAK shot, but an aurora lasting 17 minutes was again seen from Apia. Similar auroral effects were observed after the other high-altitude explosions mentioned in § 2.52.
So...strange bright flashes or even just wierd glows in the night sky, when you know you're too far south for the AB, even though no fireball is visible..don't stand around wondering what it is for too long. Get moving.

PLAGUE WARNING - RUSSIA: REQUEST FOR INFORMATION
http://www.mosnews.com/news/2004/04/23/plague.shtml Chief sanitary inspector warns of plague threat
Russia's chief sanitary inspector, Gennadiy Onischenko, has called upon his
colleagues to be prepared for an outbreak of plague, the Rosbalt news
agency reported, citing the press service of the State Sanitary and
Epidemiology Monitoring Service.
In order to provide epidemiological security and to prevent the spread of
the dangerous disease among the population, the chief sanitary inspector
told the directors of anti-plague institutions located in the Russian
regions bordering Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and China, to prepare for possible
cases of plague, especially at border checkpoints. He also called for a
joint effort of the State Sanitary and Epidemiology Monitoring Service and
departments of the Health Ministry to carry out preventive measures within
the country.
The last case of plague was registered in Russia in 1979.
Note:
Given the absence of plague in Russia, it is important to know the reason
for this warning. As noted in some of the postings below, plague has been
reported in the recent past in some of the adjacent states
