Two Chinese diplomats, away from their Los Angeles consulate improperly, recently sped their vehicle past a Los Alamos National Laboratory guard post near classified facilities in what U.S. officials think was an intelligence mission, The Washington Times has learned.

In looking around for news I ran across a link about a whooping cough outbreak in Newburgh NY. However, when I go to the news site all I can find is this:

Hmmm. According to the Greenbrier's webpage Greenbrier they are still up and running as a resort hotel for the public. They have special holiday packages listed for Memorial Day, 4th of July, etc. 2004.

LOS ANGELES - Independent truckers parked their rigs on a busy freeway outside Los Angeles on Friday morning, snarling rush-hour traffic for miles in a wildcat protest over high diesel prices. Other truckers rallied at two of the largest ports on the West Coast.

The gridlock occurred during the morning commute on Interstate 5 south of Los Angeles when truckers parked or jackknifed three big rigs, then sped away in a waiting car.

Right, the news media manipulates the reality sometimes.

Also heard this evening that in a couple of days they (DHS) plan to reveal more information as to why the threat was taken so seriously and given to the media to broadcast.

The one story I heard in the very beginning from an on scene reporter about the person who called the threat info in saying "I hope this will help me gain citizenship" was very odd. Although I heard it only once and it was never repeated. I wonder what else the caller said which we may or may not find out soon.

Every one I saw interviewed down by the harbor terminal when they called out the riot police was Mexican.

I sometimes watch the series on the Travel Channel, called Great Hotels (highly recommended, btw).

During one of the programs, the Greenbriar was profiled.

Beautiful hotel, just stunning, and they took a tour through the secret area too. I wouldn't want to be stuck in the shelter there for months on end though. And then come out to a destroyed country.

Texas City to get trucks for first responders

TEXAS CITY -- Law enforcement agencies and other first responders are getting new trucks and other equipment for homeland security in one of the coastal cities where petrochemical plants and refineries have been on heightened alert for possible terrorism.

Texas City officials are soon to receive delivery of a $500,000 hazardous materials response unit that will be used to help in dealing with chemical incidents locally and in the region. City employees took delivery of four dual cab four-wheel drive trucks Wednesday that will be used as part of the municipal homeland security plan.

The vehicles will be used for transportation of the city's first responder teams during possible terrorist attacks or other security matters. Two of the vehicles will go to the police and the fire department will get the other pair.

"This brings to total $1.2 million the city will have received in grants and equipment to improve our homeland security efforts," Mayor Carlos Garza told the Texas City Sun in Friday's online edition.

Fire Chief Gerald Grimm said the new trucks will be outfitted within two weeks with a series of communication equipment, laptop computers and personal protection suits.

The laptops will help provide links to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and other emergency response agencies.

Last month, the Texas Coastal Regional Advisory System, a shared information and communication system that is part of the Houston Joint Terrorism Task Force, was notified of nonspecific threats gathered from overseas sources against refineries and petrochemical industries along the Texas Gulf coast.
