George W. Bush ^ | April 26, 2004

ARLINGTON, VA – Bush-Cheney ’04 today announced the campaign’s newest television ad, entitled “Weapons.” The ad highlights John Kerry’s troubling record of opposing weapons systems essential to fighting and winning the War on Terror. The ad will run on national cable and in selected local markets. Nine other versions of the ad, specific to selected states, will also air. The script for the ad and supporting documentation are attached.

SCRIPT FOR "WEAPONS"

President Bush:
I’m George W. Bush and I approve this message.

VO:
As our troops defend America in the War on Terror, they must have what it takes to win.

Yet, John Kerry has repeatedly opposed weapons vital to winning the War on Terror: Bradley Fighting Vehicles, Patriot Missiles, B-2 Stealth Bombers, F-18 Fighter Jets and more.

Kerry even voted against body armor for our troops on the front line of the War on Terror.

John Kerry’s record on national security: Troubling.

I am greatly curious as to how Kerry will try to obfuscate this. He obviously voted against many of the weapons that guarantee US supremacy in war today, and it is clearly recorded. How will he try to spin this one?

Even slick Willie couldn't extract himself out of this one (although i did say the same thing during the whole Monica issue). Hmmm.

Anyways, Kerry's got himself smack in the middle of a beartrap. This will separate the minor flip-floppers from the master-slime.

Yeah, that's probably what's going to happen.

I wish though that somehow someone (maybe a journalist, or the Prez once the televised debates start) would press Kerry to answer that question. I really really would like to see what he would say. He managed to kinda find an excuse for the medal-throwing thing, but this one would be interesting.

I am surprised Democrats are not weary of the guy by now. Goodness, Kerry makes AL Bore seem borderline electable!

His response was to blast Cheney for supposedly opposing some of the same defense programs when he was Defense Secretary. However, either they took it out of context or outright "exaggerated" (read lie) what Cheney did.

And when our troops come home from their fight abroad....I wish to station them on the border and keep out the millions of illegal invaders coming accross our borders....The Mexican Govt Narco Terrorists....the Islamic and Chi Com terrorists and the independent criminals all haters of America...and Americans..

And furthermore when those troops come home I also insist that those entrusted with carrying and using weapons to defend our freedoms also be entrusted and allowed to own and carry weapons
in defense of their own lives and the lives of their loved ones and property...and against ALL the enemies of freedom..That they be secure in life..liberty and the pursuit of happiness...both foreign and domestic...

That these brave Americans also be safe and secure in their dwellings and in their possesions.

No, it wasn't your idea. It was my husband's idea 2 weeks ago or more. With the disappearing weapons, too.

You men are all clones; you think alike.

LOL!

Haven't heard Senator Kerry yell, "Bring it on!" for quite a while now....

Actually my idea was slightly different, and not surprisingly, more hard hitting.

Mine had an Army infantryman stuck in an ambush in Afghanistan calling the the controller up in the plane asking for help. He asks for one weapons platform after another and the controller keeps saying "it's not available" and finishes up with a "we don't have any of that stuff". Then the voice says Imagine where our troops would be today if John Kerry's vision for the military was implemented 20 years ago?

But I'm a cold hearted SOB

You happen to know if there's a thread on this or where I can find the facts? I may need them.

Try this, it seems to be fairly accurate.

I think you'll find that the difference between Cheneys recommendations for cuts and Kerry's is that Kerry's proposals were concurrent with the cold war and Cheneys were post cold war.

Both were wrong in reducing our fighters by 30 brigades. We need those 125,000 riflemen right about now.

Yeah, I am finding some stuff that looks like Cheney was wrong on some of this stuff, too. Thanks for the link. I mean, I think people will conclude that GWB is better for defense than Kerry, but this approach isn't gonna wash if CHeney has a similar record. What do you think?

Ouch. Did you see this quote?

I think it is vitally important for a President to know when to use military force. I think it is also very important for him to know when not to commit U.S. military force. And it’s my view that the President got it right both times, that it would have been a mistake for us to get bogged down in the quagmire inside Iraq.

--Dick Cheney, from that website you linked.

I think the democrats are running against the wrong guy. Every day they waste on Cheney elevates Bush.

If Kerry is engaged with Cheney, only one man wins, Bush.

Sure. :-}

But post 9/11 is a different world. I'm not a world cop kind of guy but I the confluence of CB weapons and Husseins giving terrorists sanctuary convinced me long ago that Iraq had to be taken down. I would have favored more "shock and awe" but the job had to be done one way or the other.
