"More clear-eyed Steynery."
Excellent new word, facedown!
Although I'm disappointed to note that this was posted in the afternoon. Why?
Because... (ahem)... nothing could be finer than to read a clear-eyed Steyner in the moooorrrrrninngg...

Things will never improve as long as Arafat is the leader of the Palestinians. The Israelis could do them a favor by eliminating him, but they'd certainly not recognize it as a favor.

For 10 years, the world has been trying to give a state to the Palestinians and the Palestinians keep tossing obstacles in their path.Trouble is, the Palestinians don't want a Palestinian state. They want Israel. (But what would you do with Israel if you had it?)

How about if we return to the 1000BC borders.

How about if we return to the 1000BC borders. I believe they were very clearly defined in the Torah.

external realities require He is referring to threats made by Turkey. The turkish government has said on many occasions that if the Kurds declare their Independence, they will start a war with the Kurds. The Turks did not give us permission to use their border to attack Saddam out of fear we would give the Kurds their own nation. That is why we had a one front attack on Saddam.
Anyone who has followed middle east politics would be aware of what Mark was referring to the potential Turkish-Kurd conflict. Like all columnists, he has a word limit. Writers tend to assume that the readers know as much as they do... That is rarely the case.

Just a thought....
It might be akin to some places, still, in the USA:
If you arent a member of the preferred church/union/political party, you dont get a contract.
Its quite possible to believe that since the entire country recently voted 102% for Saddam Hussein, under penalty of death, it was perhaps wiser to carry a Ba'athist member card, if one was not going to flee the country.
Just a thought.....
BTW, no way is an Islamic country actually going to support Democrats, except as usefull idiots in the terror war.
We dont have very many "friends of the USA" in Iraq.
But that's OK, I doubt we had many "friends" in Japan or Germany for a long while, and those who claim "friendship" now, well, they lie.
At best they are allies or friendly competition.
Countries dont have friends. They have allies and enemies, partners and competion, depending upon the issue(s).
But you knew that, surely?

He could have said "Turkish pressure" in the same number of words, and although you've covered the Kurdish issue, you didn't explain what's stopping us from giving Arafat the cut direct.

from above: "any state that harbors terrorists or promotes terrorism is asking for intervention, would mean one scud to Israel and the Pali state disappears."
And it becomes occupied territory AGAIN!!!
That would make the EIGHTH war the Arabs have lost against Israel, wonder what the "lucky number" is???

I demand a return to the Neanderthal borders, and full reparations!

While the liberal jokers
Say Bush is a dunce
Whining "Bush's a moron"
While Franken's checks bounce
Scrolling with Ann Coulter when the dew is pearly early Thursday morning
Chads all flutter up and fluster addled Broward voters, in the morning
If I directed Cheney's wing'n
I'd have him comin' out bigtime swingin'
Nothing could be neater than to be a longtime Freeper in the moooorninnnnnnng!
