One thing I get out of this is that the U.S. sold out to Sharon because, implicitly, we need Israeli intelligence to fight the war on terror.
That is, we are being blackmailed into Sharon's camp, abandoning the Palestininans and our role as hoest broker.
Kerry, on TV last week said he backed the change in policy.

Islam's victory will be complete when its followers are enjoying the blessings of paradise.

Our leaders promised *overwhelming* force after the initial mutilations. Repeatedly.

The Western response must be harsh enough to humble its adversaries, without turning the stomach of the Western population itself. Stomachs toughen over time. .....best to err on the safe side -- the side of utterly destroying our enemies without obsessing about collateral damage and "hearts and minds."

I have long favored burying their dead face down cover in pig lard, wrapped in a pig skin, with a pork chop in their mouth. Send them to H*** defiled. Or as I like to say Jimmy Dean the carcases.

Every day the fighters of Falluja thumb their noses at us is a victory for them.
Yes, we're killing bucketloads of them, but to judge success by that is a misreading. They don't care how many of their fighters die.
The message going out is that via negotiations the Americans have been held off. Not a popular view here, but we're thinking like rationalists, not jihadis.
It's been how long since Americans were bbq'ed on the streets of Falluja?

The price of recalcitrance, Bush has told the Palestinians and indirectly the Arab world at large, is that some part of the Dar al-Islam has fallen to Jewish hands for the indefinite future.
Sort of like the repudiation by the United States of the Brezhnev Doctrine in Grenada.

Maybe we can humiliate these savages further by showing pictures of their dead with their brains blown out by American bullets.

By this interpretation, Sharon has blackmailed us. And it is true that the Bush administration has recently abandoned decades old policies towards the Palestinians and the West Bank. Just a bit ago I read a thread on FR with Pat Buchanan saying pretty much the same thing.
The pay-off for us is information to help win the WOT, which you could argue that we are now losing.

Not me, much.
But the fact is that the USA has tried to be the middle man since Nixon at least was in office.

"Humiliation for Jews and Christians is a chastisement from God; did not Christ accept His humiliation on the cross?
For Islam, humiliation is a refutation of the faith itself."

If we had pussyfooted around Hitler as we are around Islam, we'd be living in the Third Reich now.

And it is true that the Bush administration has recently abandoned decades old policies towards the Palestinians and the West Bank. So? Did those policies do anyone any good? They ended up in the right place .....the dustbin of history.

Quoted from above: ",,,setbacks to the Ummah are a challenge to the faith of every believer, for all events are in the hands of Allah, not those who have submitted to His will. Success therefore is a theological necessity for Islam."
No Arab country has won a war in over a hundred years!
Except against each other, maybe.

If we had pussyfooted around Hitler as we are around Islam, we'd be living in the Third Reich now. Although it was somewhat euphemized and sanitized, it was known that we (mostly the British) were incenerating all the German civilians we could. Same thing for the Japanese. To say that our stomachs turned over what we did in Viet Nam might show we no longer are tough enough to be the big dog any more.

Radical Islam has risen against the West in response to its humiliation - intentional or not - at Western handsRecent humiliations haven't caused Radical Islam to rise against the West.
Radical Islam has always wanted to run the world.
Recent advances in technology and large amounts of money have made it possible for radical islam to rise with some success.
They are rising up now, because they know they can inflict a lot of damage.
