Discussion Thread: Kerry's Appearance on GMA Regarding Medals
Good Morning America - ABC News
Posted on 04/26/2004 5:09:02 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest
Let's see if I can kick this off.
During the promo at the beginning of the show, where he was standing by live in West Virginia, and throughout the interview itself, Kerry tried hard to keep this huge "what me worry?" smile plastered on his face. He coupled it with numerous condescending head shakes that seemed to imply "these poor benighted fools who so miserably misunderstand the greatness that is John Kerry."

What I find amazing is that he KNEW the question was coming, but he didn't prepare his answer. I'm sure Clinton practiced his responses ahead of time. That was why he was so slick. I don't think Kerry has any advisers, or if he does, he doesn't listen to them. He has gotten away with flip flopping for so many years without challenge that he doesn't know how to handle hard questions. TM Grasshoppers

So Kerry has raised GWB's service again? Wonderful. Kerry's back on McAuliffe's level now. Well, that just put all the Winter Soldier stuff into play. There is some serious scandal there involving assassination plots.

That bears repeating:
According to Kerry, if the medals and ribbons are the same, then it is accurate to say he threw his medals.

What columnist/reporter was it that wrote and article talking about how good Clinton was at lying to them and getting them to belive it? It was basically a congratulatory article proclaiming Clinton the greatest liar of all time and how wonderful he was at it.
Instead of writing an article criticizing Clinton for being a brazen liar and calling him on his lies she wrote a piece praising him for it!

So, when do you wear the medals with "civilian" clothes?
As Kerry claims.

Said Kerry, "Actually I did NOT throw my medals over the fence before I threw my medals over the fence."He actually DID throw his medals after he did NOT throw his medals over the fence. He thought he was very clear about that.

Just and observation! DUH, I think you meant "just an observation"

I wish GMA had asked why John Lehman's signed his Silver Star and Bronze Star medal citations ...
15 years AFTER Kerry left the service.
Why? Didn't Kerry have real citations when he threw his medals/ribbon's/somebody's else's medals/ribbons/citations over the fence/put them in his Senate Office building shrine?

Actually, Kerry did throw medals, althought not actually HIS medals, before he threw HIS medals for the SUV, that he does not own, but his family does.

Kerry can try to spin this any way he wants, but the bottom line is that he has been forced to totally get off message and be on the defensive. Yep...and his official "message" this week was supposed to be an all-out attack on Dick Cheney. Lame-O! Is this all they got?

Like I said, when I was in you couldn't purchase medals. You had to get them from personel. For instance, when we qualified in the Seabees for Expert Rifleman we were handed the citation. We then had to go to personel, present the citation, then we would be handed the medal. The ribbon was purchased at the exchange. I never went to pick up my medal, which I now regret. I purchased a ribbon to wear on my dress uniform.
It sounds like Kerry wanted everyone to THINK he was throwing his medals away. Then again, it appears he asked for replacement medals in 1984. I think he DID throw his medals away. In 1984 he needed them to get the union's backing in his senate bid. Being a high ranking politician it was very quick and easy for him to get his replacements, hang them on his wall, then have the union official over for viewing.

I guess the big question now is why did ABC put the wood to Kerry?

I missed this so thank you for the post.He is not a happy camper. His attack on the President make him look evasive and small. One thing he could never borrow for his campaign is the "straight talk express".

You do NOT where your medals with civilian clothes! Well, I guess you could in a ceremony of some sort such as VFW, etc. But they're not awarded to be worn to a disco on Saturday night.

Whoa. The 9-11 Commission's John Lehman?! Wow, I hadn't heard that before. Isn't that an interesting little co-inkydink.
