April 24, 2004 -- The release of flag-draped coffin photos supposedly of American soldiers killed in Iraq turned into an uproar yesterday when it was revealed the pictures include images of the remains of Columbia space-shuttle astronauts and casualties from Afghanistan.

Obviously they don't support efforts in space either - another pet project of Bush. They'd rather spend the money on more programs to enslave people.

I realize the court did not rule on the photos of the coffins, but I find it interesting that we can't get the photos of Vince Foster released due to concerns for his family, but when it comes to our dead troops, the pictures are vitally important for the public to see, screw the sensitivities of their families.

I don't seem to remember any newspapers filing briefs in support of Alan Favish' efforts to get Foster photos released. I guess not all photos are vitally important to show the public.

How about a little perspective. Lets show the coffins of all Americans who have died within the last couple of weeks from accidents and foul play. The military loses would make up a miniscule corner of the total. People die every day; they die while driving to work, and while at work. Yes, we honor our soldiers for dedication, but are our firemen, police officer, construction workers, or parents on their way to pick up their kids, any less dedicated? For all we know our troops are actually safer while fighting this war then they would be at home.

The media has gone over the top.

With the economy picking up, the ONLY thing that will derail a Bush re-election is a huge pile of dead Americans in Iraq. The Democrats and their leaders, the Socialists are depending on things to get worse.

Rather than wait for that to happen, they are spurring it on by sending messages via CNN to the enemy..."We are ready for you to send us the dead bodies now.. we have the cameras rolling!!"

According to BJS stats 45% of them are committed by some one on probation and parole...i.e. under government supervision. I think the auto accidents is 30,000 or more per year. Don't know what the DUI is.

Nunnallee put the 15,935 deaths into perspective this way, "When one person is killed every 33 minutes in this country -- that's the equivalent of two jumbo jets crashing and all the occupants perishing each week. If that happened in this country, the American public would be up in arms -- every airplane on the planet would be grounded."

"Drunk driving is the most frequently-committed violent crime in this country," she told Reuters Health. "It's something that the nation must get serious about and stay serious about."

It's the same with Irish peacekeepers out in Lebanon, as far as I know more have died through accidents, than through military action.

While I don't think the media is going overboard with the coffins yet, your point is correct -- let's not stop driving cars and let's not stop fighting the terrorists.

If I may add to your point, let's show videos of live abortions. At least in that case, we'll be helping to illustrate something that is clearly wrong.
