Pat Tillman wanted no special treatment while he was alive. I doubt if he'd want any special treatment in his death.

God rest his soul.

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."
---George Orwell

In Flanders Fields
by Lt. Col. John McCrae, M.D. (1872-1918)
Canadian Army

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

All our men & women fighting overseas are incredible standouts...but we got to know the Tillmans better because of their pre-war jobs. Through Pat and his brother, many people got a chance to put a face on the otherwise anonymous world of the US soldier.

They've done their county a great service, and now Pat's paid the ultimate price. So sad. Rest in peace.

Absolutely-- I harbor no grudges and glad to see you don't either.

This is so tragic. Do you listen to country music? There is a song by Clay Walker that sums this up for me.

Why, oh why do people like Pat Tillman and Barbara Olsen die and losers like Al Franken and Jeaneane Garofalo live. I'll never understand.

When a superior individual like Tillman is killed(in contrast other strutting narcissists in the NFL, for example) I can't help but think perhaps departing this 'veil of tears' isn't as bad as we living typically imagine.

Given the right circumstances, perhaps its the best thing that can happen to a person.

I'm sure God has blessed Pat Tillman.

Yes I listen to country, what is the song. I cant promise I'll listen, because I'm on the verge of tears. I left the Navy to go fly for the airlines, and today I feel very small.

And I would not compare it (Roger's my insertion) to Tillman's.

Not stated in my post but absolute in context.

He should be hearld as an example of what it means to serve and protect. He could have stayed home and made millions and gave support. He chose to give it his all. and he did. I hope young people learn ther is more important things in life than rap, latest fashions, money and debauchery.

"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived." -- George S. Patton, Jr.

Rest well, Mr. Tillman. In a world searching for heroes, your example is one that all people of courage and duty may follow without question.

We should all take a moment to remember that every soldier who dies or is wounded had dreams for the future and was sacrificing some part of himself or herself that they believe is worth it. Tillman just had a life that we know more about, and his sacrifice is visible to us all. He was truly a hero and a role model.

When these fine men and women are killed or wounded defending us, it is up to us to remember that without them there would be nothing to defend. This Memorial Day, every American should do something in between the Picnic and the ball game--

Remember.

Thank you Rob. Remember, indeed!

That is why I get mad each time I here some of these junk punks out here talking about the need for a draft. There are kids and vets walking into recrutiment offices everyday signing up and going to fight what I call the final battle. Tillman gave his all and then some, yes he was well known and a member of the NFL, but he died like an soldier before him and he will be missed just as any other soldier would, he never asked for special treatment or used his former status to curry favor. The guy was a class act.
