"NFL players hardly have been strangers to military service. Roger Staubach served four years after graduating from the Naval Academy before joining the Dallas Cowboys as a 27-year-old rookie in 1969. Rocky Bleier of the Pittsburgh Steelers nearly lost a leg to a land mine when he did a tour of duty in Vietnam."
I always liked Roger but I would not put his service in the same paragraph as Rocky's.

It is hard to sustain a war effort when you see the beautiful, special faces of the fallen. It's terrible to say what I feel right now, but I have absoilutely no use for anybody in that region. They kill truly beautiful, kind-hearted American boys and girls-- the people of that region constantly prove that there is a Devil.

Linda,I saw this,so sad.God bless him,he was a good man and will be praying for our loved ones in heaven.

There is only two things I can say about this guy, He had the guts to serve his nation in its time of need and the balls to walk away from a well paying career in the NFL. We should never forget that and all the other guys and gals that have left behind well paying careers and families to protect us all.

Why, oh why do people like Pat Tillman and Barbara Olsen die and losers like Al Franken and Jeaneane Garofalo live. I'll never understand. Do not grieve overmuch. They go to a far better place.
To: jtminton
Aw gosh, how sad. Prayers to his family.

Also, a player from the Bills dies in Vietnam-- I forget his name, I saw a moving documentary about it not too long ago.
To: jtminton
He should be an example for all to follow. RIP.

Thanks for saying what I was thinking. We've got so many heroes in our military services that it's hard to keep track of them all. Having a few die each day only brings a sense of deep loss to me.
