Gere slams Bush for runaway pride

Richard Gere's quest for spiritual enlightenment has yielded one epiphany: Bush must go. The longtime disciple of the Dalai Lama took issue with what he sees as Dubya's faith-based war in Iraq on Tuesday when the actor was honored by the American Museum of the Moving Image. "One thing I've learned in my life is never to trust anyone who thinks that he exclusively has God on his side," Gere told a Waldorf-Astoria crowd that included Denzel Washington, Kim Cattrall, Tim Robbins, Liam Neeson, Laura Linney and Matthew Modine. "Especially when he's the President of the United States."

Gere told us that testimony before the 9/11 commission shows "there were some serious mistakes made. Like everyone else in this country, I would just like to know the truth. ... I think we deserve a regime change."

Most of the evening saw Gere in a merrier mood. Climbing on his chair, he clenched a napkin in his teeth after a clip was screened showing his hot tango sequence with Jennifer Lopez in the forthcoming "Shall We Dance?"

Diane Lane called him "your silver-haired sexiness." Hector Elizondo said that between "American Gigolo" and "Pretty Woman," Gere "helped the entire prostitution industry."

Louis Gossett Jr. recalled that his combat with Gere in "An Officer and a Gentleman" left him with "a hairline fracture in the ribs. But we never had a cross word. Deborah Winger took care of that."

Winger was conspicuously absent. But Winona Ryder, who was said to have feuded with Gere on "Autumn in New York," came and called him "my favorite person."

Sharon Stone looked great but needed five takes to get out a simple introduction for the USA Network taping. "Now you know why I'm not on Broadway," she apologized.

A baby seal walks into a bar. "What can I get you?" asks the bartender. "A Canadian Club"

Along with the current crop of DEM politicians, and DU nuts, Gere just doesn't finish saying out loud what he should.

never to trust anyone who thinks that he exclusively has God on his side, especially when he's the President of the United States."

(here's what he thought, but didn't say) Because I'm the only one that has God on his side. I'm a STAR. Lo and Behold, bow before GERE!

And Gere's credentials are....what?

Maitre D at a nice upscale restaurant before he became a pretender,...ahhh...., actor?

Or unlike the long, long, very long list of other prior waiters/waitresses and unskilled laborers turned pretenders, does he have some form of education that is at least somewhat indicative that he understands economics, political science, world history, current events, etc., etc., etc.?

Ahhh...

Here it is, ...decided to find out myself:

Education: University of Massachusetts Amherst (two years)

So he did a couple of years of underclass work at one of the finest liberal institutions in the nation for cheap, naturally, and then apparently dropped out to go "pretend."

What a fulfilling existence! If people didn't go see his films where he plays "make believe", his entire existence would be a footnote!

Oooh! There's more...

Education: University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Massachusetts; studied philosophy and drama; attended on gymnastics scholarship; left after two years

Gymnastics! Impressive! I think we should line him up with Condi Rice in a debate! Clearly the lad has earned it!

Could have been that philosophy and drama, ....excuse me...."pretending" background that he had. Almost forgot my manners there! :D

What a dope Gere is!

Gere no longer uses gerbils, he has graduated to groundhogs and is seriously looking at badgers.

The gerbil story is an urban legend.

It's still funny though.

"Hector Elizondo said that between "American Gigolo" and "Pretty Woman," Gere "helped the entire prostitution industry."

Thought that Gere's choices for influence were a little at odds with his 'other life'; his shadow presence with the Dalai Lama.

Guess he never reconciled the dualties of being a genuine hypocrit.
