Carroll quiet in wake of joke
Democrats have raised a stink, called for apology after crack about Clinton.
By STEPHEN MAJORS
The Times-Union
State Rep. Jennifer Carroll, R-Green Cove Springs, is not commenting further after defending a joke she made Saturday about U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y.
At the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in Miami Beach, Carroll said Clinton was visited by the ghosts of Presidents Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln. According to The Associated Press, the joke had Clinton asking each president what she could do to help the country, and Lincoln told Clinton to go to a theater. Lincoln was assassinated in Ford's Theater in Washington.
...According to Carroll's legislative aide, Joe Mobley, the legislator thought the issue was dead as of Tuesday. But Carroll's comments were the focus of a segment on Fox News'The O'Reilly Factor on Tuesday night. Host Bill O'Reilly criticized Carroll, who did not appear on the show, for being "in hiding" and not qualifying her remarks....

I happened to see O'Reilly on tv talking about this, and I was surprised he spent so much time on it.
As for Carroll, IMO, because she holds public office -- after she said she meant no malice, she should have just added if anyone felt offended, she apologizes. (Because you know there is some senior citizen voter or some FL voter who heard about this and may feel offended.) End of story.

Glad to see this representative speak out! Democrats can hand it out, but they sure as he** can't take it! Whiners and losers!

Surprised that they didn't call her an Aunt Jemima!! The NAACP should apologize for inferring that she's undergone a sex-change ;-)

I don't see any national significance to this story. O'Reilly needs to get a life. He is getting crankier and more petty all the time.

You were surprised that the blow hard know-it-all O'Really spent a lot of time going after a woman for an obvious joke? I'll never watch that idiot again. I decided that the evening that he went on and about how the Governor of Georgia wouldn't come on his show. I wish the Governor would have told O'Really that he could pound sand.

she should have just added if anyone felt offended, she apologizes.NO, NO, NO, HE** NO!!!!!If anyone felt offended, that's THEIR PROBLEM, not Carroll's. To quote the famous (or imfamous) comedian, Redd Foxx, "If you were offended by anything I said, go, leave, knowing this....if you were offended, I DON'T GIVE A $HIT!!!!"

Was the other side of O'Reilly's mouth telling viewers the joke about the black choirboys stealing his hubcaps. Bill really needs to lighten up.

That's right! Ms. Carroll should keep her humor confined to the bounds of good taste...like making a joke that Mahatma Gandhi runs a gas station. (Surely all will note that no Democrat or media wonk got upset about that one...)

I happened to see O'Reilly on tv talking about this, and I was surprised he spent so much time on it. I tuned into O'Reiley part way through the segment and he never repeated the joke. Thus I thought she had said something really terrible. This is not as bad as I had thought.
But we must remember it does require the use of a brain in order to have a sense of humor.

Hi SUMMER !!!!!!! Been a while. How's FLA????
Wasn't it the democrats that called for the death of President Bush? Removal by any means?
And even if so, Back in early history, some politicians (DEMS?) had posters printed wanting an EX-PRESIDENT who became a Senator (the only one to do so) KILLED...
Because he kept bringing up EQUAL RIGHTS FOR BLACKS and END TO SLAVERY at every SENATE session. FOR 13 YEARS. When asked why? Even after repeated death threats and Senate bylaws stating he could not propose on that issue, he said, "DUTY IS OURS, RESULTS ARE GOD'S"
