The war on terror, the Middle East, teachers, and prevention of breast cancer occupied the President's public remarks today.
The President spoke to the 2004 Newspaper Association of America annual convention in Washington; he "acknowledged difficulties in trying to head off another Sept. 11-type attack on the United States because America is a 'hard country to defend' and U.S. intelligence is never perfect," and said "a nuclear-armed Iran would pose an intolerable threat to peace and stability in the Middle East and a mortal danger to the state of Israel." He "rejected international condemnation of Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and said world leaders owed him a 'thank you' for his plans for the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. Bush said the Palestinian leadership has 'failed the people, year after year after year' by not preventing terrorism against the Jewish state." (Yahoo quotes)
The First Couple celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Komen National Race for the Cure, a five-kilometer run that raises funds for breast cancer awareness, and participated in the 2004 national and state Teacher of the Year award ceremony in the Rose Garden, where Laura told secrets on her husband from his student days.

I just saw a clip of the Press group meeting too. The President refered to them as the Politboro, LOL! Just kidding of course.
But did you see the faces of the press when they panned the room?? I haven't seen such grim, humorless, joyless faces in a long time.

The part I saw on Fox included an explanation of why the Patriot Act was important and a couple of nice barbs against the press, which were funny and the audience laughed. He got applause at the end.
I want to see the whole thing.

That Nancy Brinker is a beautiful woman. She's a Dallasite and (I believe) that she is the sister of Little Mo Connelly.
Anyway, she's very active in the fight against breast cancer.
I always think she looks like what Nancy Pelosi wishes she did.

Dang it! You've destroyed my illusions.
I thought they couldn't take a bad picture. and there they are with exactly the expressions I have in all my pictures.

Thanks, DrDeb. Appreciated all the articles. Bush can really energize a crowd and uplift it also.
sorta like Kerry (that's a joke -- I love looking at folks in the background at Kerry appearances -- they look like people in the dentist waiting room - let it be over)

Hanoi Kerry at his "moment of glory."
What a piece of ******
The media WILL NOT mention this book.
I will!
The cover is a insult to Iwo Jima vets,
then it gets worse towards Viet Nam vets.
I was there the same time Hanoi Kerry was.
I served on a Destroyer which supplied PBR's
and gave gunfire support in North AND South Viet Nam.
My ship may have even supplied Hanoi Kerry's boat.
I VOW I will do everything I LEGALLY can
to keep this traitor from being elected.
I owe it to those who gave their all.

And while the middle-aged woman across from the palace in Adhamiya may scream "Whores!" as the girls pass by in their more revealing Western garbHmm, I've had to try hard to stop myself from doing the same thing at the mall : )
Re the Elvis impersonation, boy that's funny. It sounds like something my late husband (the class clown and resident Elvis) would have done.

When was the first photo in Post 7 taken??
From the date on the Yahoo image file, today. And from the way the ladies in the background are dressed, at the same event as the second picture in post #1.
So presumably that photo was taken today, at the event that Gretchen describes in the opening as:
The First Couple celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Komen National Race for the Cure, a five-kilometer run that raises funds for breast cancer awareness

She may be her daughter as Mo"s married name was Brinker.
Mo grew up here in San Diego. Won all the top tennis
turnaments when 16. When my uncle was in high school he
strung some of her rackets at Morley field.

Thanks to both of you. The articles are terrific, and I love Laura's Elvis story.
Hope I'll "see" more of all of you soon. I miss posting on FR. The semester from hell is almost over. Next week is dead week, then finals, and I'm done (for a while anyway). I can't wait!

I tried to find the info on Nancy Brinker. Maureen Connolly and Nancy were friends and started a program to encourage young girls to play tennis. Nancy married a Brinker as did Mo. Mo died at age 34 of cancer.
It was Nancy's beloved sister's death from breast cancer that caused Nancy to get active in the breast cancer foundation.
I still don't know if the Brinker's they married were brothers or what? I guess I'm not paying enough attention to the society pages in Dallas. (they almost never mention me)
