Front and center of the Dixie Daily News today is a Bush hit piece by Harry Browne titled "The 19 Dumbest Statements By Bush During the Last Week"
I emailed Ron Holland, the site admin, owner, etc. the following:
Dear Editor,
Harry Brown's 4/20/04 article referenced above is a political hit piece against President Bush that has absolutely nothing to do with Southern issues.
By running this article, the Dixie Daily News aligns itself with the anti-Bush crowd..a position that will not be well received by Southerners.
If you look at the famous red/blue map of the 2000 election, you will see that President Bush was extraordinarily popular in the South with the exception of the liberal infested metropolitan areas..those are the folks who despise the Stars/Bars anyway so they are of no consequence to your website traffic, IMO.
It was a bad idea to run the article. Should you continue this track, count me as a lost reader.
Regards,
Mr. Hollands simple reply to me: "Goodbye".
It is sad to see that a pillar of the fight for Southern Heritage feels the need to publicly degrade the former Governor of Texas and a Southern President.

If HK comes out publically with the same attitude, I'll seriously reconsider my assoication with the fight for Confederate heritage.
The Dixie Daily News has been deleted from my favorites.

Recently, I got a postcard about Ron Holland's new website [
SwissGnomes.com] .
I guess he must have gotten my address from the Sons of Confederate Veterans mailing list.
Apparently he's said "Goodbye" to the US too, since he's moved to Switzerland.

"Southron Libertarian."
If so, he's moved so far right that he's circling back into leftist territory.
To: Rebelbase
Read the article in question and I have to say it's not the best I've seen. However I wouldn't say it's 'circling back into leftist territory'. Although as a conservative, I question the 19 statements mentioned and not Browne's critique of them

Ron Holland has replied to me again via email. I've invited him to register here and comment on this thread and asked his permission to reprint his email to me should he decline to register.

He's right about dumb statements except they weren't the Presidents. I read the President's comments then his statements following up on W's. The followups were the dumbest that I've read in a long time.
Expect to see a lot more of this bs as the election approaches.

"...former Governor of Texas and a Southern President." Bush is using the iron fist of federal power much as Lincoln did. He's not just coming down on foreign threats -- real or perceived -- but on Americans too. Other than being geographically from the South, he doesn't act like a 'Southern' president.

I wouldn't call that a "hit piece." Elected officials should be the most scrutinized people in the country, and criticism of centralized government should be encouraged. Look at how Southerners viewed President Lincoln 140+ years ago.
Frankly, what amazes me is that so many Southerners have made the Party of Lincoln their political home. The GOP has done little to defend Southern heritage.

The democrats have done everything in their power to attack Southern Heritage! What do you suggest as an alternative?
To: GadareneDemoniac
The only way to effectively combat attacks on Southern heritage is to simply speak the truth and try to educate people. Don't let anyone silence you. The problem with political parties is that "the good of the party" always trumps everything else, and anyone rocking the boat are severely punished. Look what happened to Trent Lott.

Corraling protestors into "free-speech" zones at public appearances (gassing them in Oregon last year); stepped-up harassment at airports (not of the ones fitting the 'terrorist' profile, but innocent Americans on vacation); Rep. Henry Hyde saying Constitution is 'obsolete', 'overtaken by events'. PATRIOT Act. The standard police-state encroachments. Hillary couldn't have done a better job (ouch, I realize this site is pro-Bush, all the time).
