A day in the life of President Bush (photos): 4/20/04
yahoo.com, whitehouse.gov

Posted on 04/20/2004 6:33:47 PM PDT by rintense

President Bush headed to Buffalo, NY today to discuss Homeland Defense and specifically, the Patriot Act. Bush made his case that if parts of the Act expire, it could weaken our homeland defense. The President then headed to NYC for a victory luncheon fundraiser. Meanwhile, First Lady Laura headed to Louisville, KY to attend and award ceremony. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

Well, Mr. Ohio has gone upstairs, so I'm heading up too...........really I am.......this time, I really am. :o)

Nice report kitkat. We are having severe weather in my area so I'm lurking mostly and may have to turn computer off. But I'm glad you posted it.

***We did have about 20 people who said they are coming. I'm trying to pin them down to definite now. It's like pulling teeth to get them to respond to my mail.***

Pardon me if I'm interfering, but this old luncheon chairman has learned that:

When you make reservations, deduct about 10% of the reservations. In other words, if you expect 20 people, only book for 18. Any restaurant should be willing to ADD ten percent at the last minute to the number of reservations, but will probably not DEDUCT for non-shows. They rather expect that you will do that anyway.

Send each interested person a reservation form and tell them to send checks to you by such and such a date so that you can make reservations. (Don't mention the ten percent bit though because some will shilly shally about responding if you do.) Then you're covered for the payment. And no sweating it out.

I don't know of any restaurant today that will allow each person to order separately and then give out separate checks. So, the best thing to do is get the restaurant's group luncheon menu and choose three different meals (maybe beef, chicken and fish or salad or whatever you think) all in the same price range. Then tell people to make a choice in advance and tell them how much should be on the check to you. (Don't forget tip and tax--often that alone is anywhere from 20 to 25 percent which the restaurant will add on automatically. The restaurant will tell you how much they charge for that. )

That avoids your having to pay the bill for the WHOLE group on your charge account even though somebody orders lobster and an expensive intro, and an expensive dessert and wine and somebody else orders a sandwich and coffee, and YOU have to figure out who got what and how much they owe you.

PHEW, it sounds complicated, but it's actually the easiest way to go.

Once again, forgive me if I've misjudged the situation, but I hate to think of anyone getting the bad end of this kind of deal when she's good enough to make the plans.

HAH! I made him a layered Pecan Pie last night that Amy had posted the recipe to on her thread, so no brownies! :-)

He was fixing my profile page, somehow all of the pictures became red x's and someone freepmailed me and told them. It was funny cause the person said I should change my name to ladywithredx's!

He did fix the problem, a few things are mixed up, but who cares? The x's are gone!

I didn't know about the parody on flip flops!

I watched Senator Sessions (R-Alabama) and Senator Reed (Dem) on the News Hour as Lehrer went over Wolfowitz' testimony, etc., today to some committee on which Levin, Teddy Kennedy, etc., sat, regarding the war in Iraq, Woodwindy's "book," etc.

I haven't followed the career of Senator Sessions but he is wonderfully right-on, refreshing and clearsighted. When Lehrer would ask Reed a question, he'd blather and obfuscate and charge and rail, and then Lehrer would ask Sessions what he thought.

Instant peace hit me the moment Sessions began to speak, every time. He is excellent at stating the truth clearly, refuting the spin and LIES, and he is not afraid to tell it like it is about what the Senate knew and when it knew it, refuting all of Reed's allegations of secrecy misconduct, etc.

In the excerpts shown, I thought Wolfowitz did a great job of slapping down Kennedy and standing up for himself.

From this interview, it seems to me that Sessions is one of the adults in our government. Does he represent anyone on the Dose?

No, but we New York Staters will trade you two for one: Hitlery and Upchuck Schumer for one Sessions? Deal?

Too bad there are a gazillion of us who want to talk with them...........not enough time.

I get to see both of them in August. Of course, there's no way I'll be up close like before, but I've been elected a delegate, so will at least be on the main floor. With 50,000 people being there, not too many will be close up. Ya'll look for the NC sign on the floor. We only have 13 delegates so we won't be taking up a LOT of space. I'm sure there will be a few other North Carolinians down there with us, but I don't know who right now.

I'm so excited I can hardly stand it, but you all please say a prayer that they keep the planes flying around Madison Square Garden, rather than over it. We'll arrive there on August 29 and leave September 3.

Update:

As you all know Mike's unit was extended for 90 days....well it's been changed to two weeks....Mike is at Ft Campbell now, he just called a little while ago and the major has ordered Mike to process out...no need to wait around Campbell for their return and Campbell is on the ball and has everything prepared for their return....Mike has nothing to do!!!! and the major does not see any reason for him to return to Iraq just to turn around and come home again......Campbell is sending him home, if he can get it all done by tomorrow, they will fly him home Thursday....his medical was all done at Walter Reed and all he has left is finance and tons of paperwork to complete tomorrow.....if he can't get it finished tomorrow, he'll have to wait til Mon cause several of these offices are closing Fri for some event......YIPPEE...it's finally over for Mike and I..

He will return to Campbell for a few days June 1st when they arrive, to help with his troops processing.

Thanks for the good advice kit. The lodge is setting up a Deli Buffet for us. The cost is per person, so I will collect the money up front plus tips and donations for the room rent. I hope to have the amount per person figured out and will let them know what is expected from them when they arrive. You may be right about short counting. Thanks.
