Italy Seizes 8,000 Kalashnikovs Headed to U.S.

Apr 20, 9:09 AM (ET)

ROME (Reuters) - Italian customs officers seized more than 8,000 Kalashnikov assault rifles and other weapons on a ship headed to the United States, officials said Tuesday. The arms, worth about $7.15 million, were discovered aboard a ship arriving from Romania that pulled into the southern Italian port of Gioia Tauro on its way to the United States, Italy's customs said in a statement. According to the travel documents, the arms belong to a large U.S. company with headquarters in the state of Georgia.

"We know that the destination was North America, but we don't effectively know if that's where the arms were going," a customs official told RAI state television.

The arms were found inside three containers during a routine customs check earlier this week. They were confiscated due to discrepancies in the customs forms, but the news was only made public Tuesday.

The customs office said the weapons had been described as "common guns" instead of assault rifles and longer-range combat arms in the travel documentation. ($1-.8390 Euro)

If this was going for the terrorists - blood in our streets! Maybe time to get that 2nd amendment out and dust it off.

Somehow, I don't think these are intended to be part of a Coca Cola promotion.

What's THAT supposed to mean? If they're coming in illegally, they have NOTHING to do with the 2nd Amendment, now do they?

Is someone putting an 8,000 person milita together? A band of armed thugs, maybe?

Who signed the documents? Jones? Smith? Achmed?

I don't understand you anti-gun Republicans. If they take away our guns, how are we going to shoot the Liberals?

Darn. I guess my post-AWB order won't be filled...

Probably....
The weapons are not AK47s, but the semi-auto civilian weapons. Maybe with all the features previously banned by the AWB.

Perhaps...
A gun company here ordered them in anticipation of the AWB sunsetting: they would have the first batch of new "assault weapons" available for sale.

Could be wrong, though. The weapons are valued at ~$894 each, and that's pretty expensive for a non-auto AK.

Very good. And if they are coming illegaly, and the 2nd amendment is abolished - how am I going to protect myself?
