Jordan King says WMD Vx gas attack stopped. Al Qaeda/Syrian connection suspected.
WABC Radio | 4/19/04 | John Bachelor

WABC's radio's Bachelor & John Loftis (sp) reporting Syria gave Iraq's chemical WMD to AlQaeda. Captured trucks in Jordan with chemicals with Vx attack would have killed 20,000.

Did they report it was VX?

Damn. I knew it had to be a Nerve Agent.

Where the hell is the press? What are they waiting for?

I know that they're waiting for: they're waiting fo 20,000 dead. Then, they'll blame Bush for his incompetence in letting Iraq's weapons get out of the country and they'll forget all about their shouts of how they never existed, etc, etc.

Remember- the San Fransisco Democrats always blame America first.

If the Jordanians really did find Vx gas then it means the government of Syria is complicit. There's no way this stuff moved in from Syria without government or security force knowledge.

Frankly, if it's true then it almost certainly will require a military confrontation with Syria.

I agree, don't get me wrong.

but can you imagine what the left and the US media would do if seemingly out of the blue, Bush said "we are going to war with Syria because the WMD is there". After this whole Iraq WMD thing, I do not think Bush has enough support to make that case.

there has to be another way to make it happen, similar to what happened with Libya.

I think that 727 was found. Besides, the Boeing 727 has a maximum range around 2500 miles and that is very much stretching it, with a 1800 mile range more likely. It isn't like they can gas these things up in Sudan somewhere and non-stop fly to London.

But I thought Iraq didn't have any WMD's.

Iraq was the only country in the Middle East with capabilities to make VX.

This was just posted on a related thread.

Update by John Loftus WABC
2004-04-19

Last month 3 trucks from Syria
crossed the Kaim Cross point
went 75 miles into Jordan
to make a transfer of 7 1/2 tons
of nerve gas.

This was observed by coalition snoopers.
The gas was probably one of the 'G-series'
(Sarin, VX, etc.)

Syria does not make Sarin nerve gas
it had to come from Iraq.

The gas had been transferred to Al Qaeda.

It is possible President Assad may not have known
it may have been authorized by the Defence Minister.

Syria had decided to get rid of the WMD
at first tried to send it to Sudan
but Israeli secret service got wind of it
so they gave it to Al Qaeda.

There now is a black out
of news coming from Jordan.

Syria may have the capacity also.

Of course, if it was VX, it sure sounds Iraqi to me.

I figured it was VX- it's the only chemical agent likely to be in Islamist hands which could cause 20,000 casualties like that in the attack described.

I've been waiting to hear more on this before writing about it. After all, I didn't want it to turn out that the agent was some sort of "minor" chemical weapon which could have been produced in some shack somewhere.

Can someone confirm that they said VX?

We've been talking about this for days and ABC just picks up on it.

I usually listen via WABC (web). B&A always have very interesting stories in depth...8-12 minutes each.

See post #48 for confirmation of Vx. There has to be something to this story. The source, at least of the poison gas, albeit not specificaly stating Vx, is none other than the king of Jordan.

This is perhaps the most serious thing I have heard since the 2001 anthrax attacks.

that may need some clean up.

Al Qaim is the town at the syrian border where the material came out of Iraq before the war. Note it is also the town where our Marines repelled that assault from 300 foreign fighters trying to support the Fallujah operation (recall the threads, 5 marines were killed). The movement of the material stored in Syria to Jordan could have been done at any time - they have a lightly patrolled open border with Syria.

the rest of the post is accurate from what I heard on the show. whether its true that Assad knew; hey, maybe Bob Woodward can quote him saying something about the matter.

This is far more serious, in that it means that al-Qaeda has hold of VX nerve gas.

Sleep well. We can deal with terrorism via law enforcement.

What really gets me is that you just know that, if there's a major attack, Kerry will attack Bush for not doing enough to stop it and the media will report his charges credibly.

that is true, but some of the details, and the assertion of the London/Paris threat, is new from what I see.

A chemical WMD release anywhere in the world would warrant an
immediate nuclear levelling of Damascus.

Or if we choose to play 'nice', just several MOAB's
over population centers that support terrorism.

as others have posted, the mainstream media isn't interested in these stories - unless the attack occurs and they can use it to say Bush is at fault.
