I say replace them with more of the South American troops on their bases. When the fighting started it was the El Salvadorans, Chileans and Guatemalans along with some American support troops who did most the fighting. The Phillipinos and Thais did well at another base too.
A non-reported story is what happened in Najaf when the Mahdi attacked the 'Death Squads' at the beginning of the uprising. They made several fervent human-wave assaults against rows of concertina wire and concrete barriers. Many hundreds if not thousands of them were gunned down in the first two days. Ammo resupply was an issue on several occasions. The Mahdis only success was in Kut where they drove the CPA back to the Ukranian base. The Mahdi took very heavy losses attacking Coalition bases and haven't launched an assault since.

More than 1,000 soldiers.

Ths soldiers of Spain are not cowards, but unfortunately their current politicians are as well as the supporters of these same politicians.
Fear not. The Spanish will be back in the battle before long, and this time for real. Al Qaeda is not going to be mollified by this act of cowardice and retreat by the Socialists. They will only be emboldened and push too hard.
At some point what is going on will become intolerable to the majority of Spaniards, and the battle will be resumed. This is a fight to the finish and the boil of terrorism in Spain will only continue to suppurate. It will have to be addressed sooner or later before final victory or defeat in Spain.

I assume that you do not nothing of what happened in Spain during the electoral campaign. It is easy to insult and to ignore.
There is not a single Spaniard that thinks that if their troops leave Iraq, Spain will be free of terrorism. I assure you. Nobody thinks that.
Spain has been fighting terrorism for 30 years and never cave in.

I'm guessing if we Firebomb all of the Spanish cities and assassinate their Prime Minister, maybe they'll try to appease US and join us in the war on terror again.

So....will they be using sheep in their couragous bull fights now? Or just dehorned and castrated bulls.

Based on what you have reported, this figure seems to be very low.

Former President Aznar in FNC:
WALLACE: Some people are comparing it to the appeasement of Adolf Hitler before World War II.
AZNAR (THROUGH TRANSLATOR): There are countries that prefer to think that they're buying comfort at the cost of others, but I don't think that's the way you can act in this world. There are no neutral groups. Either you're with us, or you're with them.
And those who try to be neutral, I think, are the ones who are going to be paying the highest price. The terrorists are not going to forgive them, and they will have no understanding from those who are fighting against terrorism.

I am reliably informed that the Spanish foreign service is mostly pretty contemptuous of Zapatero, and they are calling hinm "Zapatito" - little shoe.

I wonder how these Spanish troops feel about being pulled out of Iraq. I get the feeling that they are not liking it one bit.

The spaniards are cowards. Osama told them to leave Iraq and they did. They are cowards and have handed over their soul to Bin Laden. When the muslims finalize their takeover of spain, we will all laugh.

I totally agree. We shouldn't pin than name to them due to the action of a new leader who happens to be a total moron!

This is the best reason I can think of not to obsess with an 'International Coalition' when you have something important to do. The more world leaders you involve, the more time you need to waste screwing around making sure that they all feel important.
How about this for building a coalition: If you're not going to help, then keep you head down and stand back.
