"Why don't you nominate Mel Gibson for president? That will get you on the front pages of every newspaper in the country." Indeed, Gibson would be an ideal candidate of a party that mentions the name Jesus Christ in the Preamble to its platform.

How many members does the Constimatooshin Party really have anyway? (I know, too many)
To: EveningStar
Except for that Constitutional requirement that the President be a natural born citizen.

Oh! That makes him eligible. But I don't think he's going to run. Religion seems to be his thing.

I'm not advocating this at all.

Well, Arnold is doing a great job in California... Mel would be an awesome candidate. Unlike most politicians, Mel has testicular fortitude and morals.

The Constitution Party is useful to me.
I have run across traditional democrats who simply cannot bring themselves to vote republican, BUT they hate the anti-family, anti-gun, anti-God, anti-America platforms of the democrats.
But, I know they're going to hold their noses and pull the dem party lever in the voting booth.
I've actually found them receptive to the idea of voting Constitution Party when I explain it to them.
Taking away Kerry votes, AND nurturing them in a conservative party, ALL at the same time.

Can someone provide me with the details of Gibson's political beliefs? His recent movies have indicated a conservative leaning. But his earlier movies, particularly the extremely liberal anti-Second Amendment "Lethal Weapons" series, suggest otherwise.
Did he have a conservative epiphany? Or was he always conservative, but subject to the scripts and direction of Hollywood liberals early in his career? Or is he really a liberal riding the (currently profitable) wave of patriotism and conservatism in this country?

Read the entire platform. Interspersed among those elements that are immediately appealing to conservatives are some bizarre ideas.

Did he have a conservative epiphany? Religious epiphany that left him far more conservative politically.

Mel was actually born in the US. Moved to Australia when he was 12. That takes care of a third of the requirements (natural born citizen). Mel's older than 35 (part 2), but his Australian citizenship may prove an obstacle to part 3, "...and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States."

I don't know his politics. But he's a great actor and director. He probably isn't a leftist.

Condi is going to clean house in '08. I'm very satsified with her abilities now that I've seen her standing up for the president during her visit to the 9/11 commission. She explained their positions well, and handled the (sometimes legitimate) criticisms with grace and confidence. She'll make an ideal first female president!

Since I'm NOT going to vote for them, it doesn't matter. My intent is to get old conservative democrats to vote for them.
