The entry of Tom Coburn has turned the tables in the race for the Republican Party nomination for the U.S. Senate seat held by Don Nickles, who is not seeking re-election. An Oklahoma Poll taken in January had shown former Oklahoma City Mayor Kirk Humphreys apparently well on his way to an expected November general election showdown with U.S. Rep. Brad Carson, D-Okla.

Coburn is the only guy who can beat Carson. For one thing, he represented Carson's district for six years. We'll see if the GOP establishment will support him or if they'll do what John Warner did to Oliver North back in '94.
To: Holden Magroin
Exactly. Unfortunately, the Oklahoma City GOP crowd has come to the the game early, getting endorsements for Humphreys from both Nickles and Inhofe, and probably others.
Carson's not going to be easy to beat in the 2nd district; he has good political instincts and seems to have learned from the late Mike Synar's experience.

The GOP has no choice, Coburn doesn't have Ollie's baggage.

Sounds like Coburn is our only hope. Carson is at almost 50% against the OKC mayor.
We cannot afford to lose a seat in OKLAHOMA!

Don't forget, it was Nancy Reagan speaking out against Ollie that gave away that race.

Who the heck would pay $7 to be able to access the Tulsa World on-line? I'm sure their on-line membership is very low---I hope it includes at least one Tulsa FReeper.

Thank you. Any chance you can please provide information like when the poll was taken and the margin of error?
I also take it that the senate matchups between Coburn and Carson will be in Sunday's edition of the Tulsa World.
To: LdSentinal
Poll was taken 26 March to 5 April of 328 Registered Republicans, by Consumer logic. Margin of error is 5.4%.
