How many zeros in Mrs. Kerry's tax return? Kyle Williams opines on NRA, the draft, U.N., Fallujah

In the wake of the dreaded tax day, April 15, Teresa Heinz Kerry is in a media fight, with calls for her to release tax returns. Mrs. John Kerry refuses to release them, despite her call for the release of rivals' tax returns. She remains firm, but most speculate it will damage the Kerry campaign to a degree.

I understand the double standard, but I still say, who cares? We all know she's rolling in the dough. The image of John Kerry being the people's candidate has long faded, and any new investigations into the ridiculous wealth of the Kerrys is simply redundant.

Meanwhile, some 15-year-olds in Oklahoma are still required to pay federal and state income taxes despite no representation in the federal and state legislatures. Two-hundred years ago, most would call such a thing "taxation without representation."

Recently, presidential hopeful Ralph Nader told a group of supporters, "The Pentagon is quietly recruiting new members to fill local draft boards, as the machinery for drafting a new generation of young Americans is being quietly put into place.

"Young Americans need to know that a train is coming, and it could run over their generation in the same way that the Vietnam War devastated the lives of those who came of age in the '60s."

I'm no prophet, but I firmly believe there's no way a draft will be reinstated. Sure, there are plans out there and legislation being considered, but the politicians of America will never find their spines. Thus, they haven't the backbone needed to take a stand for the draft.

Anyone supporting the idea of a draft is going to have a hard time finding strong support from any legitimate groups. If we're lacking troops, the obvious solution is to abandon our role as the world's policeman and use troops where needed.

Friday was a history-making day for the National Rifle Association, as they launch their new radio/television network over the Internet on NRANews.com. Cam Edwards, former talk-show host in Oklahoma, is the new host for their three-hour afternoon program.

Why would the NRA spend millions on a talk network and launch over the Internet? Cam said, "It's really the fulfilling of a promise Wayne LaPierre made to the members after McCain-Feingold was upheld by the courts. He said, 'We're going to start newscasts on the Internet. We're going to run advertising right up to Election Day saying, if you want to hear the truth about these politicians, this is where you're go to hear it. ... I'm not going to let 4,000,000 NRA members and 20,000,000 affiliated members and 90,000,000 Second Amendment supporters be silenced.'"

Organizations like the NRA are forced to launch radio networks if they desire to have any voice in elections while abiding by the law. Yes, there was much outrage by conservatives when Campaign Finance Reform passed, but the steam is all but gone. Unfortunately, as citizens forget about such encroachments upon freedom and head to the polls, organizations like the NRA are hurting.

Contributing to the vast evidence of the irrelevancy of the United Nations, the U.N. Human Rights Commission, being nearly divided at 21 to 20, passed a resolution criticizing Cuba for its rights record. While many Western nations voted for the resolution, countries such as China, Russia and Zimbabwe affirmed Cuba's "successes and adherence to human rights," according to some news reports.

It's a ridiculous thought: Half the Human Rights Commission voted against criticism of communist Cuba. It's probably because the U.N. is filled with communists, dictators and terrorists. Yet, for some unexplained reason, the United States is still a member and our tax dollars fund it each year.

It's time we withdraw.

The biggest news in Iraq is the ongoing violence in Fallujah, where terrorists have mutilated and kidnapped Americans. The latest is peace negotiations between America and the terrorists of the godforsaken town.

In reality, our troops should flatten the city. Probably for fear of criticism from the U.N., we won't. The only thing these people recognize is force, and force we must give them. We must break their backs and their will to fight. Unfortunately, if we continue to attempt to solve problems in that country through peace negotiations, Iraq will turn into a West Bank.

Smart kid. He's more grown up in thinking about the issues of the day than many similarly informed adults who still have the developmental level of a 13 year old. I refer y'all to Peter Singer's comments about President Bush in my other thread. That's really the level of thinking of these people and Kyle Williams is older, both intellectually and morally, than the lot of them.

Kyle (if you're reading), I'm interested in what you believe about income earned by 15 year olds. Do you believe they shouldn't pay taxes on the income or that they should be given the right to vote if they pay into the government?
