WASHINGTON - Two Republicans on the Sept. 11 commission have given money to President George W. Bush's re-election campaign while serving on the panel, and a Democrat has donated to three of her party's presidential candidates.
In total, half of the 10 commission members have made contributions to federal candidates or organizations since their appointment in late 2002.

Jamie Gorelick, a Democrat and former deputy attorney general under President Bill Clinton, has given more than any commission member - $13,250 in the last 16 months, including $2,000 last spring to Sen. John Kerry's presidential campaign. She also gave to two now-defunct Democratic presidential efforts: $2,000 to Missouri Rep. Richard Gephardt and $1,000 to Gen. Wesley Clark.

Proves my point that this 911 commission is a boondoggle of taxpayers $15 million. This farce is a politically-charged dog and pony show and should be disbanded. Bottom line: THEY THE BUSH ADMIN TO TAKE THE BLAME. The honest truth will never surface because they refuse to look at the clintoonian admin. Kill this commission.

At least her fingerprints have turned up on who set 9-11 in motion.

So, why does this story lead off with Republicans? Looks like just about all of the commission members donate to campaigns. So what? Most of them donated similar amounts except for one commission member whose donations were markedly higher than the others. That was the real story and should have been the lead-in line. More bias.

This commission is at best a bad joke. The victims' families deserve much better.

I agree, kill the commission, with bullets preferable. The idea of discrediting the commission is borne of what should be a mainstream, sane, righteous principle; namely, that conflicts of interest and lack of integrity are necessary to the legitimate functioning of the committee.
Your fringe comment has the potential to relegate those of us who care about such things to the margins of the body politic simply by posting together with you on this board.
Rather than discredit the commission, you discredit this forum.

"conflicts of interest and lack of integrity" should read "integrity and a lack of conflicts of interest."

We should be doing research using both spellings of her first name.
This could be interesting.

Jamie Gorelick is a litigation partner of Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering which represents Prince Mohammed al-Faisal al-Saud, the House of Saud, against a lawsuit filed by a coalition of 600 Sept. 11 families.
Do you think the 9/11 families attending the hearings would still be applauding Ms. Gorelick if they knew this little tidbit?
