And how can we forget the guy who benefited from one of klintoon's last acts as President?

In one of his last acts as president, Clinton grants 140 pardons

.............-- Former CIA Director John Deutch. The one-time spy chief and top Pentagon official was facing criminal charges in connection with his mishandling of national secrets on a home computer.

A life of lawyering and government work led Jamie Gorelick to become Vice Chair of Fannie Mae. She is one of the three in the Office of the Chairman that manages the government-backed powerhouse's $3 trillion in assets.

After graduating from Harvard Law School, Gorelick spent 18 years in the private law practice representing major U.S. companies. Her law career was interrupted, however, by government work, including stints with the departments of defense and energy in 1979 and 1980. In 1993, she took a job as the general counsel for the Department of Defense. The next year, she became the deputy attorney general.

When she was ready to leave that position, Gorelick says she had many offers in the private sector. But she found herself particularly drawn to Fannie Mae, and not just because "it's a very well run business." She found that the mission of the once government-owned corporation, which is the nation's largest source of home mortgages, appealed to her.

"The product was housing," Gorelick says, "and it was important to me that the product was one that I wanted to spend my days on. Housing is good for society--and making more housing finance available to a broader cross section of Americans is good for individuals and good for our country."

Her spare time is devoted to her two children, ages 7 and 12, and her husband of 26 years. Work and family, she says, make for a very full life.

In his slam of the FBI and CIA last evening, including insinuations that John Ashcroft was hiding something and Janet Reno was candid with the commission, Ted Koppel did not even mention Gorelick.

Let's step back and take a deep breath here.

From the beginning the fact that this commission's purview would encompass the Bush AND Clinton administration's actions (and lack thereof), there was the possibility of it being a godsend for our side. Seven months vs eight years; this presents a huge obstacle for those trying to pin incompetence on the one with short tenure, and people instinctively know this from their own life experiences. A sense of fairness is not required, simply common sense.

Once again, the Dem tactics have backfired in public, for all to see. The simple truth is that, if we're going to attempt to place blame (and that is the commission's fatal mistake) then the incompetence of the previous administration will eventually be exposed. Note that the fact that the Ashcroft bombshell had to be dropped in his opening statement, as he knew the questions would not lead the commission to uncover this fact. Also note that the commission's zeal to declassify what turned out to be a harmless document allowed him to pre-declassify the one most damaging to the other side with impunity.

The committee has been exposed, and the Clinton administration's PANDORA'S BOX has been opened, IMHO.

As it turns out, the memo is just the tip of the iceberg concerning Gorelick's questionable fitness as a member of the panel. That's because she's a litigation partner in one of Washington's most high-powered Democratic law firms - Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering. And that firm represents Prince Mohammed al-Faisal al-Saud, a member of the Saudi royal family and director of a key Saudi financial agency, against a lawsuit filed by a coalition of 600 Sept. 11 families.

Fox News interviewed Linda Chavez this morning. She pointed out that Daschle and Gephardt appointed Gorelick to this commission.

Though Gorelick may not be litigating the lawsuit, as a partner she profits from her firm's work for the Saudi prince.

She'll probably just say that's not a big deal, she and her firm have erected another wall, this time, a "Chinese wall"........so, were's the conflict?

She should be removed from the panel.

I don't know who Tom Kean is; but he has it back assward. This is our business. I just wonder who else on this commission has been planted to help the Clintons. These two and their little buddies should be put in jail.

Since Gorelick is the one person most resonsible for not preventing 9/11 she has too much vested interest in blaming someone else to remain on the commission.

My email:

Dear Mr. Kean,

You actually have the nerve to say "The people ought to stay out of our business?"

Catch a clue. The business of the 9-11 investigation is OUR BUSINESS. YOU WORK FOR US!

Now, either do your job and kick Nancy Gorelick out on her keister ~ or have her indicted ~ or REMOVE YOURSELF FROM THIS PARTISAN WITCH HUNT.

You sir, are a disgrace.

Sincerely,

The bush-bots, TLBSHOW, me, and many others are in agreement ... Kean's remark is rotten, Gorelick is compromised, and the whole 9-11 Commsssion is suspect, probably compromised -- by the isloation of the elite and hubris to say the least.

"And what was Commission Chairman Tom Kean's response to calls for Gorelick's dismissal or resignation? "People ought to stay out of our business," he huffed".

This idiot does not belong on this commission either.

Kean also said that Gorelick was one of the most nonpartisan members on the panel - excuse me, didn't he also say the entire panel was nonpartisan. Didn't he just slip up and admit that the panel is partisan afterall?

Gorelick knows the true reason for the "wall"...

Everthing Clinton did was to protect Clinton. I suggest that Clinton wanted to restrict info sharing between FBI and CIA in order to protect investigations into potential criminal cases regarding his actions and the actions of his close friends. The "gag order" was Clinton's way to limit investigation into his affairs...why else would agents be threatened with their careers?

Perhaps Freepers can connect the dots and recall what investigations into Clinton would have been advanced had the FBI and CIA shared info. (Chinagate for one?)

One of our Freepers, demkicker, found this in the archives. The wall helped stall this investigation into Clinton. (If anyone knows how to create an auto link to this address, please do so.)

It was always about Clinton.
