April 15, 2004 -- House Judiciary Committee Chairman James Sensenbrenner has demanded the resignation of Jamie Gorelick as a member of the federal 9/11 Commission. Frankly, given her blatant conflicts of interest, she should never have been appointed in the first place.

Thomas "People ought to stay out of our business," Kean is obviously part of the problem. I don't recall the specifics, but a week or so ago I heard him being interviewed on the radio. He said something about re-configuring the FBI or splitting it up. At the time I was taken aback by his grandiose opinion of his and the commission's authority. Does anyone here have the time to look into Kean's statements?

Jamie S. Gorelick, 53, is a partner in Wilmer Cutler Pickering LLP, an international law firm since July 2003. Gorelick was vice chair of Fannie Mae, the largest source of financing for U.S. home mortgages from May 1997 to July 2003, Washington, D.C. She is a director of United Technologies Corporation, a provider of high technology products and services to the aerospace industry, where she serves on its Audit, Finance and Public Issues Review Committees. She also serves on the Harvard Board of Overseers, and the Boards of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, America’s Promise, and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. She is a member of the National Commission on Terrorism Attacks upon the United States. Gorelick has served on the Schlumberger Board of Directors since 2002.

Congress created the commission. The President appointed the Republicans and Tom Daschle appointed the democrats.

You will recall, perhaps, that the original chairman was supposed to be Henry Kissinger, but the democrats put up a big howl because of (ta-da) conflict of interest. Kean was named when Kissinger stepped down.

Apparently. My politically disinterested wife found Kerrey to be insulting and sleazy when he was interrogating (read: attacking) Dr. Rice last week. He has little to no credibility left.

Another tid-bit I came across. About March 22nd, the "Jersey Girls" appeared on Hardball. Chrissy asked what they wanted to hear from this administration, and one of them, Lorie Van Auken I believe, said something to the effect of "I want an apology...my government failed me, and I want them to say they're sorry."

Lo and behold, a few days later little Dickie Clarke appears and what does he start his remarks with -- a heartfelt "I'm sorry...your government failed you, and I failed you..." Of course, the cameras cuts to the girls who are crying. Awwww, what a touching moment.

And what a setup!

A life of lawyering and government work led Jamie Gorelick to become Vice Chair of Fannie Mae. She is one of the three in the Office of the Chairman that manages the government-backed powerhouse's $3 trillion in assets.

After graduating from Harvard Law School, Gorelick spent 18 years in the private law practice representing major U.S. companies. Her law career was interrupted, however, by government work, including stints with the departments of defense and energy in 1979 and 1980. In 1993, she took a job as the general counsel for the Department of Defense. The next year, she became the deputy attorney general.

When she was ready to leave that position, Gorelick says she had many offers in the private sector. But she found herself particularly drawn to Fannie Mae, and not just because "it's a very well run business." She found that the mission of the once government-owned corporation, which is the nation's largest source of home mortgages, appealed to her.

"The product was housing," Gorelick says, "and it was important to me that the product was one that I wanted to spend my days on. Housing is good for society--and making more housing finance available to a broader cross section of Americans is good for individuals and good for our country."

Her spare time is devoted to her two children, ages 7 and 12, and her husband of 26 years. Work and family, she says, make for a very full life.

In it I found out that before being at Justice, Gorelick was at the Pentagon, and was no doubt the person who prevented Special Forces from going after bin Laden, saying that the CIA should do it instead.

It was a "dirty trick" because the truth was told. Just like the declassified Dick Clark background information tape, released by Fox's Jim Angle, enraged Kerrey. He can't stand for the truth to be revealed. What a bitter, self important, vile, disgusting little man. The entire 9/11 Committee is a shameful waste of time and money.
