Morris: Gorelick U.S. Official Most Responsible for 9/11

Former chief White House political adviser Dick Morris charged Wednesday night that 9/11 Commissioner Jamie Gorelick is the U.S. public official "most responsible for 9/11 happening."

"Of all of the public officials in the Clinton administration and the Bush administration, the one who is most directly, in my judgment, responsible for 9/11 happening is Jamie Gorelick," Morris told Fox News Channel's "Hannity & Colmes."

Morris cited the now notorious Gorelick memo, a document she issued in 1995 while serving as deputy attorney general that impeded the U.S.'s war on terrorism.

"This woman is bad news," Morris charged. "She ran the Justice Department for three years - Reno was a figurehead during that period."

The top political consultant said that it was Gorelick's "invention to set up this wall that separated investigators from intelligence gatherers."

Morris cited the arrest of the so-called 20th hijacker, Zacarias Moussaui, whose computer contained the names of some of the Sept. 11 hijackers and the flight schools they attended.

While prosecutors pursued Moussaui on an immigration violation, he said, "they couldn't let the intelligence types look at his computer."

"Jamie Gorelick is more responsible than anybody for [the] 9/11 [plot] going undetected," Morris concluded.

Then why ask? This is a DU tactic - turn the discussion to personal attacks. This is too important an issue to drag that into debate.

Knock it off.

I'll take that as a "yes", thank you.

In response to Lonesome:
Not that it makes any difference, but does anyone know if she "just happens to be" a votary of Sappho?

I wouldn't necessariliy say that it makes no difference. There is one case where it's a legitimate question to ask and not a personal attack.

A 'closetted' lesbian, just like anyone with a personal secret that they'd never want revealed, would be vulnerable to being blackmailed. That's a big security risk, not a personal attack.

I have no idea if she is or not but it certainly could make a difference.

"Sensenbrenner, Morris, Landmark Legal Foundation, Judge Napolitano and I'm sure others have all come out demanding she step down, but Keane has turned a deaf ear"

In case you haven't heard - Keane has asked Gorelick to resign - she has refused.

Keane needs our support. He must remove her from the commission. I'm sure he will be threatened. And if he is, he needs to make it public - and .. he needs to say who threatened him. Time to play hardball.

Without regard to the substance of what Morris is saying here...

Why does anyone give any credence to anything this guy says?

...during the time of Ms. Gorelick's 1995 memo, the issue causing the most tension between the ...Justice Department and ...FBI was not counterterrorism but widely reported allegations of contributions to the Clinton-Gore campaign from foreign sources...

Timeout, by wisely highlighting that passage from the WSJ article, you may have hit the bullseye. As mentioned in another post, there's a thread running today about the latest news on the UN oil-for-food scandal. That scam was running merrily along throughout the 1990's. What are the odds that no one in the Clinton administration got wind of what was going on?

Given the public record of the Clinton era, it certainly isn't unreasonable to wonder if some of that oil-for-food blood money made it's way to Washington.

Only in our dreams! How many voters are even aware of all of this? Every night this week, I have watched NBC SPEWS, and there has not been a peep about this scandal. I won't hold my breath waiting for it to get coverage in the lamestream press.

So true. I have made this point on several threads over the past couple of days. Many of us here on FR understandably hope that somehow the broader public will finally become aware of the information we live with daily. But, speaking of walls, there is a solid Leftist one standing between the American people and the truth. The name of this particular wall is "the mainstream media."

I heard on FOX the other day that it was the Reagan administration that first built the wall. I'd like to hear more history on this myself because I'd like to know how and why it was built to begin with.

Sure would be helpful if there was a DATE telling us when this MEMO was written and put into effect.

There is no date on the memo other than April 10, 2004, when it was declassified. Here is a link to the DOJ's published copy.

The area where the new declassify order, signature and date are on the copy may cover the original classify order, signature and date. But we in the general public have no way to tell.

Thanks for pinging Howlin.

The 1990's sure seem to have been one stinking pile of corruption in several power centers around the world. I had always thought that Clinton was just being negligent and feckless in his approach to foreign policy. Now I wonder if there's something much deeper and more ugly as the core of what can most charitably be described as his laissez-faire approach to terrorism and Iraq.

Don't take my response as a "yes." I have no idea what her proclivities are and I don't especially care.

My point was that we don't need to sink to the level of DU when discussing something this important. It takes attention off the issue that really matters - which is Gorelick is just as complicit and responsible for 9/11 as Clinton. The blood of 3,000 innocents is on her hands too. She needs to step down from the commission and take a seat in the witness chair and start answering some hard questions about what she did and why.

the U.S. public official "most responsible for 9/11 happening.

No, this is wrong. The American official is not responsible for WTC911. The green light to go after terrorist groups of global reach came as a result of WTC911. Pointing fingers now is immoral.

It seems that the wall dates back to about 1978 during the Carter administration, when Congress wanted to weaken the CIA, but that Gorelick made the wall higher in 1995 with her memo.

Today (April 18), that blonde airhead who is on endlessly on Fox News Channel on Sundays was interviewing Howard Dean, who was insisting that Gorelick wasn't to blame at all, that was just Republican spin, and the real blame falls on the Bush administration (I didn't watch the whole of the interview but that seemed to be the thrust of it).

Much as Ms. Gorelick is an absolutely disgusting political animal, I have to disagree with Mr. Morris.

Having done much thinking on the matter, and having reviewed the history, there is only one possible conclusion as to what US official bears the most responsibility for our current problem, besides of course UBL.

That man is James Carter.

Had he, whilst President, declared war when faced with the outright act of war by Iran (the taking of our embassy and the holding of its complement hostage), and waged that war until victorious, it is doubtful-to-certain that we would ever have been challenged by Muslim terrorists again. His blatant disregard for his duties as President gave the terrs time to organize, obtain funding, and to establish infrastructure. It also emboldened them.

We are at the end of a long chain of events which began due to his failure as a leader and President.

Not to belabor the point (what the hell, that train left Freeperville six years ago) but "Gay-dolf Hitler"

A person's sexuality is inexorably tied to their character and world view. Some votaries become bitter and hostile towards what they see as the larger society that unfairly excludes them. It is not completely irrelevant.
