LOS ANGELES Dick Clark, renowned as "America's oldest teenager," has diabetes.
The 74-year-old producer and TV star has had type 2 diabetes what used to be called adult-onset diabetes since 1994 but kept it a secret from everyone except close friends and family, according to the public relations firm Ogilvy, which is promoting Clark's new role as a spokesman for the American Association of Diabetes Educators and the pharmaceutical maker Merck & Co.
Clark is working with the firms to launch "Diabetes: Know the Heart Part," a national public education campaign to alert Americans to the little-known link between diabetes and heart attack and stroke.
Clark, the former host of "American Bandstand" and producer of the American Music Awards, refused to speak to The Associated Press on Tuesday after word of his illness was first reported in a gossip column in the New York Daily News.

It's pretty unusual for a teenager to develop this disease...

With any success, Dick Clark will be the spokesman to inform everyone of what causes adult-onset diabetes (and thereby prevent some new cases).
Obviously, obesity is not mandatory.

Who cares? My goodness. Well, since my brother has diabetes and a number of other
family members and friends, I CARE !
I would venture a guess you aren't diabetic.
You could have ignore the thread, ya know? Comments aren't mandatory, lol.

Well, it's just proof that it can happen to anybody. But, if they caught it early, he'll be OK.
I was diagnosed as diabetic on 2 February, though I had problems years before that--denial ain't just a river in Egypt. 10 weeks later, I'm 30 pounds lighter, on medication, blood sugar's down to 90 from 200+. I'm still a big fat guy (282 pounds) but getting a low-carb handle on things after getting the crap scared out of me by four simple words--"Well, you have diabetes."
Fortunately, my doctor said that if I lose some more weight, and watch my diet, I might be able to come off the medication in a few months. We'll see.
It's not a death sentence.

In human years Dick Clark is about 35. He should live another 125-200 years.
A web site I saw has placed Mr. Clark working near Roswell, NM at the time of the strange carryings-on there.

Alright ! Sounds like you're on track. I'm glad. My brother was diagnosed with diabetes when he was 26. I'm not up on all the details, Type 2, etc. But he has to give himself shots twice a day.
He just turned 48, so he's been jabbing himself for 22 years now.
I am glad things seem to (hopefully) going your way. Hang in there, Moose! ;^)
