Apparently the moderate Republicans on the Main Street board missed Soros's April 8, 2002, speech at the University of Pennsylvania where he said, "If we assess the foreign-policy accomplishments of the Bush administration since Sept. 11, the scorecard is quite dismal."

Main Street Republicans was formed after April 8, 2002, and could have reviewed Soros positions at the time it was formed, or when the donation appeared, etc. I don't know why they'd be upset about taking Soros' money anyway. The more money they have, the more vigorously they can advocate their position. I'd think it'd be good to get money from the opposition, to advocate your own preference.

It's well known that Arlen becomes conservative only when he's running for reelection. I live in a Pa. border state (WV) and have seen the TV ads and heard the radio ads where he touts how he supported the Bush tax cuts. Well, thanks for that! The NRO article cites two different groups supporting Specter. The Main Street Individual Fund took a large donation from Soros.

It could be that a large portion of the PA Republican registration has not heard of Soros and would not be alarmed by Soros' support for Specter. Specter people are committed liberals and party regulars. They will turn out to the polls.
