She never worked with Ashcroft and so can question him without conflict of interest problems. That's equivalent to saying Clinton would have no conflict of interest if he were questioning Bush. It's all political, unfortunately.

http://www.9-11commission.gov/about/recusals.htm Commission Guidelines on Recusals
Commissioners, senior staff, and other covered staff have all fully complied with Senate Ethics rules for disclosure of their employment histories and financial information. Beyond this disclosure, the Commission seeks to avoid damaging conflicts of interest in the conduct of its work by respecting three principles:
1. Financial Interests
Commissioners and staff will recuse themselves from participating in matters as to which they have a financial interest.
2. Conflicts Arising from Prior Government Service
Commissioners and staff will recuse themselves from investigating work they performed in prior government service.
3. Personal Connections
Where a commissioner or staff member has a close personal relationship with an individual, or either supervised or was supervised by an individual, the commissioner or staff member should not play a primary role in the Commission interview of that person.
Questions about the application of these principles in specific cases will be resolved by the Commissions General Counsel.

She was selected by none other, then the esteemed Sen. Thomas Daschle. Thanks for that info. I was wondering who appointed her. I guess that means we won't be having any questioning in the direction of airline security (or lack of) during the 90s.

The lady said to put it in writing: 301 7th St. SW, Rm 5125 Washington 20407 and fax: 202-296-5545 Thanks for the info. My fax is transmitting even as I type.
I complained about Gorelick being on the commission when she should be a witness.
I also asked what business these commissioners have going to TV and writing op-eds giving their conclusions before all the evidence is even in, and asking what business Kerrey has publicly giving his 9/11 commission "conclusions" regarding the Iraq War and the larger war on terror, since the 9/11 commission is NOT charged with finding conclusions on those topics in the first place.

Thanks!
Anoyone that might be in a position to "recuse" themselves under such rules should not be on the commission in the first place.

Bush appointed Kean, the Dems appointed Hamilton and the rest were evenly divided between Dems and the GOP; unfortunately for us, this happened at the same time Lott was catching HELL for his Strom remarks, so he pretty much dropped the ball -- as far as I'm concerned.

However, ben Veniste got him to say that ONLY the White House was protected.
in the post-Cold-War internal defensive air system on 911.
"I have now shown that President Bush only protected himself on 911.
Now I pass to Ms. Gorelick who will pass after a puff piece on herself
announcing what she will do in the federal system in the future, instead."

Disgusting, wasn't it! He wanted to soften his image after his blatant display of bias against Condi. Wait till he gets his hooks into John Ashcroft. The mask will come off again and the RAT slime will pour out.
To: epluribus_2
I don't get it. Why can't they just let her grandstand like everyone else for 15 minutes. She might not have gotten to her question anyway. She worked under Reno .. there's a conflict of interest questioning Louie
