SF Supervisors Lead Rally Against Gun Shows At Cow Palace
Cow Palace Is Located Close To Districts With Most Homicides
POSTED: 7:11 PM PDT April 12, 2004
UPDATED: 7:12 PM PDT April 12, 2004
SAN FRANCISCO -- Two supervisors representing the San Francisco districts with the most homicides rallied in support of a state bill that would prohibit gun shows in a local concourse.
The supervisors, who don't hold any power over the state-owned Cow Palace, urged the Public Safety Committee of the California State Senate to vote favorably Tuesday upon a bill that would ban the sale of firearms and ammunition at the Cow Palace.
State Sen. Jackie Speier, D-Hillsborough, is the sponsor of the legislation.
"The state-owned Cow Palace sits directly across the street from the neighborhoods that are most ravaged by violence and loss of life due to guns. It is an insult to the families of these victims for the state of California to allow the sale of guns to continue at this venue," Sandoval said during Monday's rally.
The Cow Palace, located south of San Francisco, has a gun show scheduled for May 1 and 2.

A footnote on this proposed gun show ban aired just after news over the weekend of the
Easter shooting of a SF police officer. Somehow the traditional Cow Palace gunshow venue was automatically related to the tragic death of a police officer.

San Francisco Supervisor Gerardo Sandoval, his district plagued by gun-related homicides of young African American men, wants the Cow Palace to stop hosting gun shows just across the street from his district.
"Government should not be selling guns, a stone's throw away from where dozens of children are being shot and some murdered," Sandoval said. "If we're not going to solve the problem, the least we can do is stop contributing to it. "
Also:
Chuck Michel, spokesman for the California Rifle and Pistol Association, said that gun shows weren't responsible for violence and that the city's push to regulate them was motivated by political opposition to the right of citizens to possess firearms.
"It's a cultural war by the city of San Francisco, [which] wants to ban the civilian possession of firearms," Michel said. "They don't want people who believe in the right of self-defense to be getting together."

BANG!
Haven't these gun show bans generally been slapped down in most states? They are selling a legal product, legally, the same as any other kind of product show.

These anti-American city officials think that if only they could just make all guns illegal, violence in our city would stop. But in lieu of that, they'll harass the gun merchants and individual buyers and sellers.
Cow Palace gun shows are a time-honored tradition here in California, but these politburo types want none of it. Of course they trotted out a dutiful police official to say that semi-automatic (their word was "assult") weapons are the cause of all police officer killings.
And the TV anchors prattle on as though anyone who would want to attend or supply a gun show must be uncivilized.

They can't ban them in a state facility.....of course, they could buy Cow Palace from the state, which I am all for.
they can have Queer Eye auditions there then.

that suspect was just parolled from the CYA, and did have an illegal weapon....an AK47..banned in CA since 1987.

They can't ban them in a state facility... That's the issue in point with one of Sandoval's comments:
Government should not be selling guns, a stone's throw away from where dozens of children are being shot and some murdered.
It's a sort of twist on the first amendment, a fictitious value for the separation of American culture and the state. Very weird. We can expect to hear it more often, I'd guess.

The gun shows have been at the Cow palace for as long as I remember and the South San Francisco area has always been dangerous. This just the latest in a long line of leftist attempts to impede the exercise of 2nd amendment rights in this state. The politics of this state have completely gone to hell.

These anti-American city officials think that if only they could just make all guns illegal, violence in our city would stop.No they don't. Reducing violence is just the LIE they broadcast to the soccer mommies and emasculated men in order to sell their real agenda of a total ban on all firearms. The Leftists know that eliminating legal ownership of firearms will result in an escalation of violence as demonstrated throughout history. That's what they want. Because when the sheeple fear for their lives, they will gladly trade their freedom for the promise of big government protection. This eventually leads to tyranny, which it the ultimate goal of the Left.

Another frustrating thing about this organization
Brothers against Guns is that it seeks to disarm urban people, presumably mostly latino and black.
The answer isn't disarmament, it's setting a positive example. I think the more people know about gun safety the less likely they are to do reckless things with guns, like handling them while drinking.
Of course our liberal politicians would never think to invite the NRA into a community like South SF and offer marksmanship and gun safety courses. Peaceful and responsible citizens of all races have a right to be armed.

Oh, yeah, right. And when the "Children" keep right on murdering each other after the gunshows are banned at the Cow Palace, well, then, we'll just have to start whining about gunshows in Reno - Yeah, that's it. The "Children" are buying their guns in Reno. We need F_E_D_E_R_A_L legislation... whine, bleat, moan...
Note to Commufornia: Get off the planet. Go back to hell.
