Iraq Shiite parties have been holding negoiations with al Sadr-representatives to try and find a peaceful way to end the standoff.
'Al-Sayad al-Sadr issued instructions for his followers to leave the sites of police and the government,' said lawyer Murtada al Janabi, on of al Sadr representative in the talks.
Over the weekend, a negioator for the Shiite Islamic Dawa Party presented al Sadr's side with a letter of conditions from the Americans for ending the crisis.
The demands include dissolution of the al-Mahdi Army, withdraw from all government facilites and respect for law, according to the Dawa representative, Hameed al-Maliki.
Al Janabi said al-Sadr's supporters reject the demand that the militia dissolve.

All that needs be done is a CIA "get out of jail free" card to allow Muqata to flee to Teheran.

Good post. It is, however, naught but a delay in the inevitable confrontation with these fanatics.

Some "turban renewal" is needed.

All the Iranians who were brainwashed into coming over the border are all now scared of dying at the hands of the US military.

Wow, the new Viet Nam is a LOT different from the old one, isn't it? This lends credence to what the Bush Administration has been saying. This is NOT a general rebellion. (Let's see if the mainstream press can find a way to ignore this, now that it is being reported by AP.)

Who is the guy in the picture doing the talking? Is that Ted Kennedy or al-Sadr? It could be either one.

Yup, just like S.H. while his sons and grandson died in battle.

Not a problem. The U.S. military caries several varieties of militia dissolving agents. (Lemon-scented JDAM, USMC Sniper-All, and Liquid Hellfire) We'll have those nasty grease spots wiped up in no time.
