Barbara (L) and Jenna Bush, the daughters of U.S. President George W Bush, walk together from the Darnall Army Community Hospital in Fort Hood, Texas, April 11, 2004 after President Bush (news - web sites) and members of his family visited with soldiers wounded in Iraq (news - web sites). Bush awarded 10 purple hearts to troops recovering in the hospital, after attending an Easter Sunday Church service at a chapel within the army base in central Texas.

Chris M stalked Teacup and me both on the forum and in private freepmail about the lovely Chelsea and what bad Christians we were for not agreeing with his high opinion of her. We told him we were going to tell his wife about his obsession. When he was banned, he came back three or four times with new screennames. What really bugged me was that he always responded with questions. Augghh, what a nut.

i definitely tangled with him in the ChrisM incarnation and i am trying to remember what it was in particular. maybe he would make assertions without backing them up, stating opinion as fact. i can't recall exactly. Tucobad was another, but his obsession was rick lazio and the SEC. i do recall that ChrisM was hot for chelsea!

My husband found the humor in the pronouncements of the late (non) lamented DS when I first explained why I was laughing so much.....
Many of the things he wanted me to say to the "guy" I would have gotten banned for!!!!!!!!!!!

We all needed a break, I think, from the tension of last week. We should really thank him/her for the laughs.

Oh, fashion commentary, discerning trolls, religious opinions, griping about the Bush daughters, supporting the Bush daughters, etc. etc.
Just your average thread. :-)
To: Demetrius Slaughter
Maybe I misunderstood the level of your disapproval.... you were being the Fashion Police, not the Decency Patrol. I suppose your use of the words "trashy," "sluts," and "whores" (later, of course, carefully delineating that you didn't mean Laura and Jenna were sluts or whores... it was just an off the cuff comment that had nothing to do with your opinion?). Your inquiry into the scab on one girl's knee also demonstrated your delicacy, tact, and simple concern for the girls' fashion statement. Okay, got it now....
To: Miss Marple
It would have saved a bit of bandwidth and effort had I enumerated all the flesh exposed that the guys were asking that the ladies cover, but I didn't, and I have tried to explain that, and it's still not being noted, but it's not the backs of the twins' dresses, or the ladies in church, that is the sole problem.
"I think it wise to not look so much at the external, but rather the heart"
Men do look at the outward appearance, what else can they do?, and it can obscure the heart and the good works.
"you think you are right because of the Holy Spirit. The Taliban think THEY are right."
I must say it shocks me that you've compared the teachings of Christ and the indwelling guidance of the Holy Spirit on an equitable level with the Taliban.
God's Word admonishes women to dress discreetly. It doesn't demand burkas (sp?). It doesn't lay out any hem lengths, draw patterns for style, etc., but the tenor of Scripture calls us to keep from causing another person to sin, in any category, so far as we are able. The Apostle Paul said he would rather not eat meat if it caused someone to stumble. "But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak." (1 Corinthians 8:9)
"Standards of decency vary from country to country, and from time to time."
Indeed, which is why I look at (based on feedback I've gotten from a number of men on the subject in the past): "How is a man going to react to this? Will it stumble him?"
"you and a couple of others are nit-picking their dress."
I'm not nitpicking their dresses. I don't think Jenna chose appropriate attire for the two occasions. Jenna's dress doesn't pass the "doesn't stumble" test; Barbara's dress does pass, IMO, and I really would not even take issue with the type and mix of fabric she chose.
Indeed, we parted company on this one, as we have on similar, earlier threads, but I continue to look forward to your posts.

Hose are never worn with open-toed or open-heeled shoes. This may be the rule where you are from, but it's not the rule where I am from, which is "always wear hose except with flat sandals, and even then, wear hose if you want to." Hose are useful in protecting the feet from being abraded by the straps, and they come in nice colors, too.
Hosiery manufacturers have for many years made hose for sandals that don't have the extra fabric - called "sandal toes" or "sheer toes."
What looks awful is wearing regular hose with sandals, the kind with the reinforced toes and heels. Maybe that's what you're thinking of?
