Ronald A. Crews, the former Georgia state lawmaker who has spearheaded the push to ban gay marriage in Massachusetts, has taken initial steps to run as a Republican for the congressional seat now held by US Representative James P. McGovern, a four-term Democrat, state officials said yesterday.

The leader of the traditional marriage fight in Mass. has decided to run for Congress. A Pubbie held this seat as recently as '96. The incumbent is going to be tough to beat, though.

From that article:
In February, tractor-trailer driver Thomas D. DeVisscher pulled his own papers to run on the Republican ticket and said he has already gathered 970 signatures. DeVisscher, also an opponent of gay marriage, was upbeat about the prospect of facing a well-known Republican in the primary, although he had never heard of Crews before a reporter called yesterday. Told that Crews was running, the North Attleborough resident said, "Cool beans." He added that his goal is to "improve the seat."
Well seamole, getting the concept of gay marriage struck down as a first step may have been the only option on that day. Did you think the banning of both had a chance? In our wickedly liberal State? You know better than I.
This Crews guy may be the better candidate of the two. I don't like that he hasn't contacted Mitt. Sounds too independent.
But between him and the Republican tractor trailer driver who says "cool beans," he may be the better choice.

Man, anyone who would sacrifice life in sunny, conservative GA (to where I'm about to flee Mass) to come up here specifically to defend marriage and family has my vote! Well, support...he's not in my district...

Yeah, I'm torn between disappointment at missing out on the FReepin' opportunities around here, and joy at the fact that I'll be living in a place that has much less of a need for it!

Woah! say it isn't so! :( We'll surely miss your strong FReepin' voice up here in this barren land.

Margaret Marshall looks forward to a long career of groundbreaking jurisprudence.Too bad she didn't stay in the country of her birth and do her damage there.
