I hope the Japanese don't cave. Dealing with hostage-takers will only ensure more hostage-taking in the future.

This hostage taking is backfiring on the insurgents like you wouldn't believe. The whole world is disgusted.

There was a thread that started yesterday about the Japanese hostages. They were linked to a radical Iraqi group. Indications were that the 'kidnapping' was staged. The female had had previous contact with one of the Iraqi guys in the martyr brigade, whatever its name is.

Re #7
I know that, too. This could get really interesting. They could really kill a Japanese hostage. Whether that is in their original plan or not, I do not know. It is not impossible that one of these peace Japanese activists decided to become a martyr for his cause.

Not according to the mouthpiece of terrorists...
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/75D2F232-7F1B-4909-9F9E-B8C41B0E93D0.htm But then again, should we hold our breath in any regard...
Kinda sad, kinda pathetic how these criminals are conducting themselves...
If we do anything, it should be like the entire world coming down on this part of Iraq...
Screw em all...
Funny thing though...
The U.N. has been awfully quiet lately...Not like they'd do anything about this anyway...
Later,
Steve

I thought they said that a day or so ago.... so this time they really, really mean it?

If all it took were a single hostage to assume control over a sovereign nation, there wouldn't be any more sovereign nations. I assume all the sovereign nations are aware of this.

Compared to WW2 Japanese troops, these Muslims are boy scouts.
Get the Nipons angry and suffer the consequences.

It is not impossible that one of these peace Japanese activists decided to become a martyr for his cause. I doubt any of them will voluntarily sign on to be "suicide hostages". My guess is they will change their politics just about the time the ax falls.

Do not discount Japanese fanaticism. It could make Jihadis blush.

This whole staged hostage show reminds me of the Mel Brooks Blazing Saddles scene where the new Sherrif holds a gun to his own head, taking himself hostage. The dialog is very un-pc today....it contains the N word (horrors!).

If they REALLY are hostages here is the chance for one to go out in style. One of the stories in the Hagakure, which describes Yagyu Tajima no kami Munenori as a great swordsman and teacher in the art of ken-jutsu (swordplay) to the Shogun of the time, Tokugawa Iyemitsu.
According to the account, one of the personal guards of the Shogun came to Tajima no kami one day wishing to be trained in ken-jutsu. The master said, "As I observe, you seem to be a master of the art yourself; pray tell me what ryu (school) you follow, before we enter into the relationship of teacher and student."
The guard said, "I am ashamed to confess I have never learned the art."
"Are you trying to fool me? I am a teacher of the Shogun himself, and I know my judging eye never fails."
"I am sorry to defy your honor, but I really know nothing."
The denial on the part of the visitor made the swordmaster think for a while. "If you say you do not, then it must be so; but still I am sure you are a master of something, though I do not know what."
"If you insist, I will tell you this. There is one thing of which I can say I am complete master. When I was a boy, the thought came upon me that as a samurai I ought, in no circumstance, to be afraid of death. After many years this problem has ceased to worry me."
"Exactly!" shouted Tajima no kami. "This is what I mean. I am glad I made no mistake in my judgment. For the ultimate secrets of swordsmanship also lie in being released from the thoughts of death. You need no technical training. You are already a master."
Live each day like you're going to die (and have faith in the Lord for eternal life)

I certainly hope so. This "We will burn them alive" or We will cut their heads off" crap can't garner a whole lot of sympathy for these b@stards.
And why are we in Fallujah? Because they're killing our guys as we try to hand them back their *&*&(*#!&U@(*&U!_ country. Can't these idjits wait til June 30?
It would be funny if it wasn't so incredibly sad. :-(
May our brave troops hammer them and stay safe. Amen.
