The elderly parents of Grammy-winning recording artist "Weird Al" Yankovic (search) were found dead in their home, apparently victims of carbon monoxide poisoning, officials said.
Nick and Mary Yankovic were found dead Friday in their suburban San Diego home by relatives who were worried because they had not seen the couple in a while, said sheriff's Sgt. Conrad Grayson.
Paramedics found Nick Yankovic, 86, in a chair in the front living room. His 81-year-old wife was on the bathroom floor.
A wood fire had been set recently in the fireplace, Grayson said.
"The house was full of smoke when they opened the door," Grayson said, adding that the family members found the flue closed.
Attempts to reach "Weird Al" Yankovic, 44, by telephone through his agency, the William Morris Agency (search), were unsuccessful Saturday.

Sad. I got to hear some of Weird Al's new "Poodle Hat" songs yesterday. I hope he'll be okay.

Prayers going up for Weird Al.
He's a good Christian man, and I hope he gets through it ok.

How sad this is. Even sadder is the statement that the media tried to call Al. "Gee Al, how does it make you feel to have your elderly parents poisoned in their own home?" Idiots!

That's just awful. So sad for Al. Prayers are going up for him, and the dear old couple, who, at least, went to Heaven together.

on Christmas Eve night (actually Christmas morning--4:00 a.m.) about six years ago, my husband and i had just gone to bed when our Night Hawk carbon monoxide detecor had gone off... we called the SJFD, they told us to wait outside (it was pretty cold for San Jose)... we waited outside with our dog Spencer...
turned out we had a faulty furnace... Praise God we had installed the detector about ten months before... i had been getting headaches and was concerned it had something to do with our gas stove, so--because i had heard the advertisements so many times while listening to good ole Rush Limbaugh--i convinced my husband (Scripter) that we ought to get one... who knows what would have happened had we not had it... we were so tired when we had gone to bed, and we had plans to wake up early and head to Santa Cruz for Christmas brunch...

"Mr. Yankovic, how did you feel when you found out that both of your parents were dead?"
Leave the man be, fer chrissakes.

Poor guy. I mean people pass away all the time, but to have them leave you in this fashion is just so terrible. My heart felt prayers go out to him and his family.

I remember when Weird Al used to send in homemade tapes to Dr. Demento. Prayers for his family. I hope he'll be okay too...

I watched a show on Wierd Als early days. They had an on going interview with
his father and mother. They seemed to be some very down to earth people.
People like this have their lives cut short by an unlucky turn of events, and then
Teddy the Swimmer just keeps on chuggin'....It's not fair

The media is filled with quote whores that just can't stop for anything, even for tragedy.

The difference between Weird Al and Ted the Swimmer is that he likes to make jokes, while Ted is a joke.

When your parents get that old, you expect them to go at any time, but to have them both go at once by something that could have been prevented is sad. At least they died together and simply drifted off in peace.

He really is Christian, and is not Jewish (though people often believe that about Al).

It could be worse. Years ago when Frankie Yankovic the Polka King died, I recall that people called Al to say they were sorry to hear that his father died (since many people thought Frankie was his father). Can you imagine the shock to get such a call?!
