Fighting the Wrong War (BOB KERREY BLASTS BUSH IN NY TIMES EDITORIAL)

Fighting the Wrong War By BOB KERREY

Published: April 11, 2004

t Thursday's hearing before the 9/11 commission, Condoleezza Rice, President Bush's national security adviser, gave a triumphal presentation. She was a spectacular witness.

I was a tough critic of some of her answers and assertions, though I believe I was at least as tough with the national security adviser for President Clinton. At the beginning and end of every criticism I have made in this process, I have also offered this disclaimer: anyone who was in Congress, as I was during the critical years leading up to Sept. 11, 2001, must accept some of the blame for the catastrophe. It was a collective failure.

Two things about that failure are clear to me at this point in our investigation. The first is that 9/11 could have been prevented, and the second is that our current strategy against terrorism is deeply flawed. In particular, our military and political tactics in Iraq are creating the conditions for civil war there and giving Al Qaeda a powerful rationale to recruit young people to declare jihad on the United States.......

My second conclusion about the president's terrorism strategy has three parts. First, I believe President Bush's overall vision for the war on terrorism is wrong. — military and civilian alike.

THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. Yes, we all know that this "bipartisan" commmission is just a witchhunt. But how dare Kerrey put his "conclusions" in the NYTIMES editorial section, before the so-called "bipartisan commission writes a report. DUBYA's biggest mistake was creating this commission.

BUT, this is over the line, KERREY should be forced to recuse himself, he's shown to be blatantly biased and not even a part of the commission.

We have GOT to start blasting the Commission with phone calls and emails on Monday - a coordinated effort of thousands of individual messages.

Evidently the latest strategy calls for a rerun of the showdown between Nixon and Archibald Cox, the last nail in the coffin before Nixon's impeachment/resignation. As John Kerry constantly reminds us, he remembers the Vietnam era very well, and Nixon was the enemy in that war.

Of course 9/11 could have been prevented and William Jefferson Clinton had EIGHT YEARS TO PREVENT IT and FAILED TO DO SO!

Great talking point for conservatives. And yes, he should recuse himself ASAP- there needs to be a LOUD outcry from conservatives on this point! I know some of you conservative talk show hosts are lurking out there- this needs to be said loud and often.

I'm unable to read the whole editorial since I refuse to register at NYT, but here are a couple of observations. First, the way all the members of this commission are conducting themselves is appalling. Kerrey, in particular is very interesting since he was agitating for getting rid of Hussein even before Bush decided to. Now, he thinks Bush is 'fighting the wrong war'. And he's criticizing how the war on terror is being fought. As a former military man himself, I find both of these positions highly disturbing. Democrats are getting a lot more of our boys killed with all this partisan dissension than anything else. The terrorists are eating this crap up.

To write and publish a profoundly opinionated piece like this before the Commission's work is complete with report filed seems incredibly unprofessional. Doing so indicates Kerrey's unworthiness to serve in such a critical position. He should resign since he is unable to impart a sense of confidence in the Commission and its mission.

And that goes for any and all Commission members who appear on the Sunday talk shows.

Think about it this way. Do you see the American people turning on Bush over this? I sure don't. And the only thing that is going to happen is people are going to see this for what it is, blatant partisanship, in a time of war when the dems should be coming together with the President and the majority of the U.S.

It will sink the dems and Kerry if they keep this "Bush is an irresponsible liar" schitck. This President is the ONLY one that has really done anything about terrorism in 11 years!

If this commission is so important for the families, then these commissioners shouldn't being all over tv during the investigation. Bush was right to fight this partisan sideshow at the beginning. The fix is in, we know the report is meant for maximum political damage.

It certainly was rigged from the beginning. If the findings are
anything less than damning for President Bush, the press/DNC
will scream that the commission was handpicked by him, so of cours
course they aren't interested in the truth! This is the final
test for msm and they've failed it. They might as well be bankrolled
by the DNC since they're spouting only DNC seminar data.
If you want to show that we don't need their lies, vote
Bush 2004 and GOP Senate to de'RAT it.

You know, liberating 25 million people and deposing one of the worst dictators in history will just enrage those peace-loving Islamics. Better not do anything to enrage them; we might have another 9/11 if we do.
