Are you sure the dems really wanted it released? I think they didn't really care. I also think they never really thought it would be released, so they thought they were safe in any mischaracterization or lies they wanted to tell. If that's the case, they're going to look even worse than they already do.

They went after release because of the sensational title. They know they can run a lot of hype based on the title of the document. There's nothing in that document that will do any harm to the administration IMO. The media will definitely hype it, but they'd hype its being withheld as well.
