Posted on 04/09/2004 4:23:53 PM PDT by SwinneySwitch
The Swinney Switch Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary are sponsoring their 12th annual Wild Hog Cookoff on Saturday, April 17.
The cooking competition will have monetary prizes and trophies for first, second and third place in three categories: Wild Hog, Beans and Pan de Campo. There are also trophies for Showmanship and a new category, Exotic. Any person interested in the the cooking competition can call (361)547-3481 for more details.
The annual barbecue will be served at the fire station, all-you-can-eat BBQ brisket and chicken with all the trimmings for only $6. Last year the group served 560 plates, this year their goal is 700.
The events will be held at the intersection of FM 3024 and CR 534. Take Exit 47 off I-37 between San Antonio and Corpus Christi.
The successful fundraisers have allowed the all-volunteer fire department to acquire new equipment and make needed improvements to their existing equipment.

I'll give this a bump because it sounds wonderful, but you know how far away the DFW area is, so I can't be there. But I'll bump it also on the Texas list because there's a lot of Houstonians.

Last year I had to butcher a feral hog by myself. As a girl, I really didn't feel like cooking it afterwards, but the ribs were stupendous.

Super,
To anybody not familiar, everything is better at Swinny Switch. I would warn of terrific traffic jams at eight am noon and five pm, the rest of the time you have the road to yourself. (Occasionally I have witnessed backed up traffic at six am, but that was just for people lost trying to find Oakville).
Hope to see many on the 17th

Since I won't be able to make it (husband gets HOME soon) all I ask is that you send plenty of pictures to the nearby PETA HQ in Norfolk, VA...
