Brilliant article.
I can't imagine Noam makes that much money from his books. Who buys those books? He's never on the best seller list nowadays.
At the local Barnes and Noble there is a little Noam section. The same books have sat there for years, unread, unpurchased. I would imagine that occasionaly a B&N employee has the unceremonious job of applying a feather duster to them so that they continue to look new.
Which brings me to another point....who publishes these books? Do they even consider the fact that they may not even break even on publishing costs from the sales of his books?
I guess I just don't get it.

Noam is a big hit w/ college leftists, Europeans, and Canadians; esp. ones who see the boogey-man in everything American.
I've flipped through his "writings" and he strikes me as one of those people who uses big words in order to seem important.
Independent bookstores in Manahattan have prominent displays of his works. There's even an indie bookstore that's named something like "Revolution Books" or something along those lines.
I like to go in there and ask, "Where can I find Ann Coulter?" or "do you carry Sean Hannity?" If looks could kill.....

He can't write bestsellers, but how many people on this planet can? What he can do is write to a hardcore niche-audience of political lunatics, who not only buy everything he writes, hang on every word he says, and probably invite him to all kinds of cool cocktail parties in Manhattan and San Francisco, but also probably repeatedly tell him that he's a genius, ahead of his times, a great thinker, a savior of sorts.
Are you kidding? He's in love with himself and in love with his life. And if all he has to do to garner this adulation, praise and esteem from a relatively small and relatively insane but devotedly loyal group around the world is to pretend to believe communist lies about the fate of 100 million people, then hey, I guess his response is something along the lines of: "got to party! got to party!"
