Noam is a big hit w/ college leftists, Europeans, and Canadians; esp. ones who see the boogey-man in everything American.

I've flipped through his "writings" and he strikes me as one of those people who uses big words in order to seem important.

Independent bookstores in Manahattan have prominent displays of his works. There's even an indie bookstore that's named something like "Revolution Books" or something along those lines.

I like to go in there and ask, "Where can I find Ann Coulter?" or "do you carry Sean Hannity?" If looks could kill.....

You're right. His stuff is unreadable.

Maybe it's a cultural literacy thing - you have to be a PHD in philology and to have read all the offal they read before you can REALLY understand the works of the master. Mostly, he seems to be very, very unhappy that America is a great nation, which ties in with what you say about his popularity in some other countries.
