A Senate Judiciary Committee lawyer urged Sen. Edward M. Kennedy to use the judicial-confirmation process to affect an affirmative-action case to which she once had been a party.

The leaders of several conservative judiciary groups noted that they specifically have asked Majority Leader Bill Frist, Tennessee Republican, to investigate the matter, especially because the 6th Circuit covers his home state. Frist spokeswoman Amy Call was not familiar with the matter and did not return a phone call seeking comment.

Ah! Maybe this is why Bill Frist hasn't done anything about the memos (other than fire the patriot who uncovered the sleaze.)

He obviously wasn't aware that the memos existed. Maybe it's time we make him aware of the seriousness of the situation? ;)

First is a useless Milquetoast. He's been useless since long before this debacle and he was useless in his limp-wristed joke of an attempt to break the Democrat filibuster of Bush's judicial nominees.

In short, I expect nothing of value from him except his resignation letter. I've had enough of the chump.

Honorable Senator Frist,

I add my voice to those who request that you spark off an investigation into the ‘memogate’ memo of April 2002. In this memo the NAACP lawyer on the Senate Judiciary Committee for Senator Kennedy urged him to unlawfully delay the nomination of a conservative judge in order to influence the outcome of the University of Michigan Affirmative action case. The nominee was therefore delayed and the outcome of that very case was affected in the favor of the NAACP Lawyer as requested. It could not have been more convienient for the special interest group to order a delivery pizza.

The memo quotes “The thinking is that the current 6th Circuit will sustain the affirmative-action program, but if a new judge with conservative views is confirmed before the case is decided, that new judge will be able, under 6th Circuit rules, to review the case and vote on it”. This of course is the precise outcome of the issue where Tennessee Judge Julia S. Gibbons — the nominee in question — was not confirmed until after the panel upheld the University of Michigan Law School's racial-preferences program on a 5-4 vote. I would then like to echo the voice of Jeffrey Mazzella, director of the Center for Individual Freedom and demand as a citizen that an official inquiry be opened into the matter by the senate.

I hope you can understand my concern is that well intentioned conservatives trying to play nice will excuse the cynical and corrupt politics that would allow such jury tampering. Mr Kennedy should be immediately censored, and his extremist friends should be barred from the senate. Moreover, this memo contains other ‘strategic’ uses for judiciary committee usury in order to affect partisan outcomes by ‘pulling triggers’ on rhetorical events meant to use these sage proceedings for the advancement of a shameful agenda.

I know that your spokesman has stated they are ‘Not Familiar’ with this matter, now that you have been briefed I look forward to seeing the effects of this memo.

While quotation marks are useful, what you quoted in writing and began with a written "The memo quotes", the phrase "End quote" should have been used to reduce confusion as to where the quote ended.

This of course is only the opinion of a very tired wage slave.

We have got to put the heat on the Republicans and force them to take action on this issue, because it is clear that they are incapable of doing anything on their own. I have never seen such a bunch of spineless, ineffectual group of legislators in my life. I didn't think we could get any worse than Lott, but I was wrong, Frist is a joke.

Wow. This guy is presented with evidence that one of his own staffers (Olita Johnson) was in collusion with the NAACP to obstruct the appointment of a Bush Judge over the Michigan case...and he says this?

memos to come to light, if they make an issue of the dems memos,
than it is a lack of spine. Washington DC is a cesspool
